Hello all. I just found this forum in search of a place to hel me find some info cause im waitin for the results from the vet. I have 6 year old (about) male akita and the night of 4th of july i put him inside the garage with the radio on so that he wont go crazy with the firework outside. the next morning we saw that the left side of his face seemed shifted (downward) and had drool commin out of his mouth. we thought maybe he just got in a fight with our other dog in the . But as days went by we notived that he seemed week on his whole left side and couldnt balance properly. so im wonderin if anyone knows what could have caused this and if theres good news in store to help my akita. Thanks

I do not know if dogs are susceptible to Bell's Palsy or strokes, but these are classic symptoms for both. Let us know as soon as you hear from the Vet!

I hope there wasn't anything that your dog could have gotten into in the garage. Dogs are VERY curious when they are bored or stressed. Are there any chemicals or items that he could have gotten into?

I'm wondering the same thing as sammiec. There can be all kinds of hazards in garages, including antifreeze.

Was there anything in the garage he could have eaten or drunk? Was there chemicals or antifreeze anywhere where he could reach it (that means about as tall as he is standing on his hind legs)? Would there have been anything (like rope, tubes) that he could have eaten?

well after what you guys said i went and checked to see if there was anythin he could have chewed on and there wasnt since we keep all that stuff in the shed on the side of the house. As for the vet, they called back and said that all of his bloodwork was fine. so were still wondering what goin on with him. as for now were just keepin him cool inside and watchin him.
