Paculiar stuff found in cat's pooh
Question: I usually clean my the 2 litter box every night before I go to shower. Since I started feeding them IAMS (hairball formula), I can always see hair in their pooh pooh. Tonight, when I cleaning I saw something paculiar in their pooh. They look like some kinda dry roots (really thin ones and it's brown in color). Could it be end products of the cat grass I feed them (fresh ones bought from Petcetera)? Or could it be the remains of that moth she ate a few days earlier (don't know which cat produce those pooh)? Or could it be worms? Also, since I have been feeding them this new Nutro Max food for senior cats, one cat seem to have less pooh than the other one (i don't know which cat produce which ones, but one cat has darker pooh and the other one lighter). I am also starting to feed them less food (vet said both are a bit overweight), could it be because the daughter (who is always eating and even go to Mama's dish to eat food) is getting most of the food? How can I stop the daughter from doing that? The biggest problem is that Sabrina will come to the food dish whenever I put food in but Mama likes to wait till she's hungry. I can't stay and make sure each of them get their own share because I have to go to work in the morning. Help me please. One last question, Sabrina (the daughter) when she first came to my house has a rather round face, but I found her cheeks is less prominate these days. You can actually see her socket under her eyes. Her body is not any thinner (actually the vet said she gained 1 pound in 6 weeks). Should I be concerned? Thanks la and sorry for the long message Answer: Vcheng, again I think you are looking for trouble where there is none Anyway, the stuff in the pooh could be the grass, probably is...the moth is long gone. As for the feeding,I can only tell you what I do,my three cats get a tbsp of canned food(one small can between them) morning and night,in their own dishes,to make sure noone goes without. Good quality dry food in a larger dish coupled with fresh water is available 24/7,cats are nibblers, will eat when they feel like it. None of my cats will pig out on the dry food,so food is always available. Your older cat might not get enough food if the younger one is eating it,try feeding them the first thing as you get up in the morning, mine will not even let me relax,or even go to the bathroom before I feed them As far as a thinning face,I have no idea, but if the vet says she's ok,she probably is. Answer: IAMS food is no good. Try feeding them some other type of cat food, like Solid Gold. Make sure it doesn't have Corn meal in the first five ingredients, and chicken by products are a good thing to stay away from, to. Answer: I am now feeding them Nutro Max Cat food. In fact, after I started switching their dry food, their hair is much softer and the rash is gone!!! However, I did find a spot under her ear where she scratch so much it's bleeding a little bit. I already gave them flea & ticks treatment, and a medicated bath at Petcetera. Anyone has any idea? I know...I know I am looking for trouble . My first cat I adopted died from advanced kidney failure that's why I am extremely paranoid... :( I have one more question, I found something near my balcony door today after I came home from work. It's light browish yellow (same color as dry food), but it's all mushy (looks like when u feed a kid some food, they chew it up and then spit it up). It doesn't stink so I guess it can't be pooh pooh. It doesn't look like vomit too because it's solid just soft. Is it possible the cat (don't know which one) just spit up after chewing? Thanks again la Answer: VCheng,I too had to have a cat put to sleep because of severe kidney-problems and I must admit I too am a little paranoid,I always check that they pee enough and not just dribble,or cry when they go to the box,so you are not alone.I don't want any of my cats to go through what my beautiful Maine Coon did,his name was "Nalle"a popular teddy-bear name in Sweden. Anyway, what you found was probably undigested food, that one of your cats threw up,it happens sometimes, especiall if they gulp the food down. Unless it happens every day,it's nothing to worry about. Answer: Also Nutro"Healthy Choice",or was it"Natural Choice" I am not sure, but it is a step better than Nutro Max. Answer: I never ask the vet about Sabrina's thinning face. Everytime I take her to the vet I forgot. She likes to eat and drink. She also likes to jump around, going on to my computer table, onto the window still, beds, anything, but I learn from my last cat that even cats with very little muscle can still jump high. Picture "- Sabrina (8a)" is what she looked like when she first came to my house, the second one (- IMG 0058a) is what she looks like now. I outlined her jawline with red and part outlined with purple is very prominate. Can anyone give me some advice? Also, I just found out that Mama has dandruff again. Not the whole body, but a small round part on the back of her neck. Probably around where the pet salon person put the flea & tick treament. What can I do stop the dandruff from coming back? (Both of them had dandruff all over their body when I first brought them home.) Answer: I was in petsmart the other day and i am kind of baffled, the dog food brands that are good[nutro, royal canin and such]do not have all the bad stuff in them, but go read the same brands in cat food and it does[corn stuff and such]what is up with that??? Answer: The corn is either protien or fiber, I forget which, but whatever it is, it is not digestable, so it is useless. The cats should not have corn in the first five ingredients of their food, either. Answer: Vcheng, I don't really see a difference in the two faces of Sabrina except that her eyes are more open in the second picture. Answer: Really? So u don't think her face looks thinner? I guess I am a bit paranoid again... I believe they say ground corn is bad because it's very hard to digest, but corn gluten meal is good. Don't know why though. Fiber / Protein is different from corn. Cats need fiber to help them pass out their hairballs. I went to Petcetera today again to look at different brands of dry cat food. I want to find a good brand that has more fibre, but Max Cat for Senior, Natural Choice Senior and Royal Canin Mature only have 3 - 4% of fibre. I used to feed my cats Iams for Mature Active (10% fibre) and I can see there are a lot of hair in their poo poo. I am worried they won't have enough fibre to help them. I am giving them cat grass to help them but they don't seem to be too interested. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
