Puppy sleeping all the time

Question:
I have a extremely tiny tiny poodle who is 9 weeks old and weighs 11 ounces. He has been to the vet and checked out. The only thing he could find was his red blood cell count was down and he had coccidosis. He has been on albon for a week and also takes pet tinic 3 times a day and little dabs of nutrical off and on to keep his sugar level up. He has been active wanting down or out of his playpen to poop or pee. He has been drinking water very good. I have been having to syring feed him he wont eat anything but turkey or chicken baby food and also rice baby cereal. He as of yesterday is eating good but his peeing has dropped the amount and he is pooing good yesterday but all he wants to do now is sleep dont want to play is alert watches you walk by or talk to him but he just goes right back to sleep. He seems fine other then that could their be something I am missing or not doing?? He did get down and play for alotted times up until yesterday and then it stopped but as of yesterday he ate better and all but seems he to be just sleepy all the time. Any suggestions. i sleep with him at night to take care of him,

Thanks for any ones suggestion or help.

Carol

Answer:
Teeny tiny puppies who sleep all the time are usually hypoglecemic (sp!!) and not eating enough to keep their blood sugar up. You say he is eating well now, so that's good.

The fact that he is not drinking or urinating much indicates dehydration. You must get the puppy back to the vet to be rehydrated.

Answer:
I would get him back to the vet and I would also give him some pedalytes. You get it at the drug store in the baby or kids section.

Answer:
He has been rehydrated and is doing great. He is drinking good and eating good so far so good. Thanks for the help and suggestions.. I hope he outgrows this soon..

"Who ever said you can't buy love hasnt ever owned a poodle"

Answer:
Oh you're breeding these dogs. Just curious - you're aware there is no such thing as a "teacup" poodle, right? That undersized dogs are out of standard?

Answer:
Carol, can you educate me please?

Why is a breeder coming to a pet site for vet advice?????????

Shouldn't you know all these things before breeding puppies?

Heather

Answer:
I don't want to say much, for fear of being accused of "jumping on" anyone.
There are a lot of "red flags" here.

The poodles are priced according to size and I see no mention of health testing for genetic defects, or of showing the breeding stock. Marketing ploys - advertising "teacup" poodles that do not conform to the standard, and not knowing what to do with a 9 week old, 11 OUNCE puppy are all major red flags to me.

Answer:
Thanks and i wont be back and i sure wont recommend this rude site to anyone. I am not a kennel a hobby breeder and i have the best references on me and my dogs anyone could ask for. And a breeder never gets to old to learn more about taking care of babies. I dont have hypo babies mine leave here with a vet certificate stating their health and condition and i give a one year guarentee in writing. I dont sell to pet stores or kennels. I raise for the love of the breed. The hypo puppy is one I acquired I am one cant say n o to a baby in a cage. I do know how to tend to hypo but always new and better ways out there everyday. And I do not show because I am house bound taking care of my mother and my poodles. And I dont use no ploys with anyone to selll a dog anyone I have talked to says that I am a very honest and open with them about my dogs and hope that answers you all might gods of breeders and say so to what you wanted to know. I will now unjoin this forum and i will be sure to make a comment about you in my own forum and the rudiness and nosiness of everyone.

Thank you and you all have a ****TY DAY

Answer:
"Hobby breeder" = Backyard breeder.

So I guess that means you don't test for any genetic defects, right?

Answer:
1st post - states her problem
2d post - advertises her backyard business
3d post - says good-bye

That was short & sweet!

Answer:
"Hobby breeder" = Backyard breeder.
Exactly. I went and looked at your "forum" Carol. One big commercial for your own poorly bred dogs.

You came to an all pets forum asking for advice for a sick poodle..... *rolling eyes* You came here to see if you could drum up some business. You're not fooling anyone...... This is a veeeeery old and tired game.

Answer:
Thanks and i wont be back and i sure wont recommend this rude site to anyone.
LMFHO

I guess we won't be recommending your dogs either!

OH ya and I forgot to say.... RAASSSSPBERRRY!!!

Answer:
And to make sure no one calls her looking for a bady bred, unhealth tested "teacup" poodle, I edited out her puppy peddling site.

Isnt' it amazing how enraged ALL these bybers get when you merely ask about what health testing they have done.

If I were breeding, I would be proud to to say what I've done for the good of the breed. Very strange...

Answer:
Carols Backyard Breeding Site is Unavailable
Wow, that says it all. She just admited it! She is a backyard breeder, and she even calls herself one!

Where is this BYB's website? I'd like to have a good look at it.

Answer:
Spoiled, I put that there in place of her website, as we do not want disreputable puppy peddlers getting free advertising here.

If you want to see the site, look HERE

Answer:
WTG LR...u sure u wanna have her site link there though?

Answer:
Yikes! That "PUPPIES AVAILABLE" sign said it all!
