2 cats losing weight
Question: Hi - I have 8 cats. two of them have recently lost a lot of weight - the others seem fine. at first i thought they were losing winter weight - but it kept on going. i have treated both of them with worm med...but no change. they both eat alot and are hungry all the time. one of them doesn't have solid "poop". i have a recently handicapped husband in the middle of a few brain surgeries and have not taken them to the vet yet (not my style but have been overwhelmed). any suggestions? both cats are about 11 year old females. one used to be fat - her knick name was pork roast. also i noticed that both of them are missing some teeth...but both still eat dry and wet cat food and tougher things like meat (table scraps). any input would be appreciated...even if it could give me an idea what to expect at the vet. my vet of 20+ years has recently retired - so that's another problem. i would have just called him for advice. Thanks! Answer: Could be hyperthyroidism, common in older cats. One of the symptoms is weight loss despite a really good appetite. Can usually be managed with long-term medication. Sorry, you sound like you've got enough to handle right now. Good luck. Answer: Sounds like your cats need the vet. Weight loss in cats is not a good sign, and in 11 year old cats it could mean a lot of things. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
