Any ideas about hacking and coughing

Question:
Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum. I have a bit of a problem with my 5 year old husky.
Over the winter time my dog started to couch occassionally. I brought her to the vet with no results. About 3 weeks ago I brought her to the vet again, she had a checkup and her shots and the vet still could not tell me why she was coughing. Over the last week it seems her coughing is getting worse.
My dog starts coughing, and hacking and seems like she wants to bring something up but never does. She still has her appetite and has no problems peeing or having a bowel movement.
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas that may help me determine what could be wrong with her. Maybe an idea that I could bring up to the vet.....Please, please any help would be appreciated

Welcome to the boards!

This hacking could be any number of things. Could be some sort of obstruction, adhesion, or something stuck in the in the esophagus that wouldn't be found during a normal checkup. My neighbor had a dog who persistantly hacked and mystified a few vets until one finally scoped him with a camera and found a splinter in his esophagus!

As for the various other possibilities, I'll leave it to the pros on this board to advise you.

Good luck!

It started again after the vaccinations?

Vaccinations can weaken the immune system.

Coughing can be anything from viral infections, bronchitis, asthma, collapsed trach or even HEART conditions.

How often does it happen? It would help, if you have a video camera to tape it with audio and show it to your vet when you go for the appt sometimes if they can actually 'see' it's a better diagnosis.

IE the way the dog is standing, holding its head, the type of cough etc..
AND if there is any mucus discharge put it in a sterile container and take it with you to the vet for testing.
