ok i live in a little town and i have a pet rat but or vets don't care for rats so i want to no what is wrong with him if you would know he has red stuff comming from his eyes and hasn't pooped or pied since yesturday the only thing that he has ate or drink is cheese and grapes he doesn't move much plz i need this answered as soon as posible plz I love my pet!!!!!

Answer:
If you got the rat from a pet store call and ask for advise from their 'rat specialist' and ask who they take their own rats to vet wise. Best of luck.

Answer:
How old is your rat? Is it having trouble breathing?

STop feeding cheese, and try chicken baby food.

The red stuff you see is called "porphyrin" and it's basically red tears. It appears as a symptom of an underlying illness.

Luba, that would be a good suggestion if any pet stores got vet care for their rats, which they don't.:(

Answer:
Well I suppose that would be difficult huh!

However, some of the staff may have their own rats as pets, which is more what I was thinking of. I know my local pet store the clerk there has his pet rat he brings to work with him. So I'm sure if you called and spoke to someone who has an interest in rats in your area they can point u in the right direction.

Also, contact your local humane society...they could be able to suggest somewhere for you to take the rat to be examined.

Answer:
Now I understand. Duh! Good idea!!

Answer:
I don't know much about this, but are you sure that vets don't work with rats? You could at least call the vet and ask about it.

Answer:
Spoiled, if this is anything like my vet, she told me she could do nothing for my dying rat when I called. I had to wait 24 hrs to get him to an exotic vet.:(
It was extremely stressful watching him suffer.

Rats are very popular pets. I wish more vets learned how to treat them!
