Red bumps on genitals
Question: Hey guys. Briggs has an appointment today for red blotches on her genital area. She recently has been playing in bushes and as I had mentioned before; when she plays, she lies down on her belly, stretches out her back legs and pulls herself on the ground - can be grass or even dirt. She developed red blotches on her belly (similar to previous thread - now locked). Thought nothing of it. She is now continuously licking and biting at it, so much that she has created scaps and it's very tender to the touch. I think it's just irritated and she trying to relieve it by scratching. We made an appointment just to confirm our thoughts. Does anyone else have any ideas? Answer: I think you are correct in that they are caused by the outdoors. My girls get this off and on. I put Gold Bond powder on them and have never had a problem with them. There are so many little bugs etc. outside and some irritate dogs more than others. Let us know how it goes. Heather Answer: Yes....never thought about it but baby powder or Gold Bond might soothe it. It didn't seem to bother Dixie. The vet (when she didn't know what caused it) perscribed a steroid pill for her....forget the name. BUT we never had to give it to her since they figured out (the vet and my hubby) that it was from jumping into bushes. But hers went away after about 3-4 days keeping her inside and out of the bushes for the most part. Good luck.....never hurts to have the vet check just in case? Especially if it bothers her and you can't soothe it. They may be able to give her something to soothe it. Answer: No experience with this, but wonder if Alo Vera would help sooth and heal? Do think that a vet should look at it first though. So confusing as to what is better, powder or gel, dry or moist? Answer: PURE aloe vera gel will definitely help relieve burn and itch Answer: My moms old dog used to get the same thing all the time in summer. He was tested for allergies and found out he was allergic to everything! He was allergic to cats even! He was mostly allergic to many plants and grass, that's why he would always break out when playing outside, it got so bad that no matter what (playing outside or not) he would have it during the warmer months. Vet said to give him Benedryl and oil in his food. That really helped with the itchyness. Answer: Briggsy had her vet visit last night! I have NEVER seen an animal SOOO happy to go to the vet!! He said that she has developed some kind of rash there, could be an allergic reaction to something, he said that there appears to be a blister forming.... :( He gave her a spray instead of a lotion (she likes to lick that stuff off ). He said it's similar to a Cortezone (sp) cream but for dogs... Applications 3 times a day. She didn't lick it after the application, so I think it's working. My poor little dirty girl!
