Help!!bump On Kittens Neck!
Question: My kitten is about 8 weeks old, and I noticed yesterday that he had a little cut on his neck, and it had a small little light brown thing in it, my mother told me not to worry about it because it could heal on his own. I have two kittens and they both live out doors, on our farm type, we have chickens, ducks and many other animals. There is also lots of bugs. The kittens tend to crawl through a fence and sleep with the chickens. I noticed today that above the small cut to the right on his neck (under his jaw) there was a rather large bump, i touched it and he cried. I figured it was maybe and abcess or some type of infection, so I took to epsom salt on a warm wash cloth and tried to draw out the infection, and i noticed the small brownish "thing" moving in and out and trying to come out, i had no idea what it was, i thought maybe it was a tip to a sack of puss or something, my neighbor said it was a grub or some egg sack or something, and she squeezed it (the kitten was in a lot of pain) and it popped, and thick puss came out. I thought it was gone and all that was left was the bump full some infection, but i then put some Balm that was supposed to draw out infections also on it, and the same thing popped out that was brown, and movied in and out again. I did that several times, but the large bump was still there. I also put some hydrogen peroxide on it. I dont know what it is, and I am very scared for my kitten. Our family doesn;t have enough money to go to a vet. Please help me ASAP! Answer: never put proxide on a cat and i don't think you should pop the bumbs that could spread infection (if that is what it is). you need to call a vet and see what they say. you should see if you can find a vet that will let you pay in payments becuase this sounds like something that should be addressed by a vet imeadatly. your kitten is in pain and needs help. You have to find a way to get it to a vet. it's very important. it could very well be an insect that layed it's eggs in the open cut which hatched and became larva. this is known to happend in all animals including humans. please try to find a way to go to a vet and get your kitty help. Answer: I just talked to my mother, she wont take it to a vet, she doesn't seem to care that much, i am stressing out and i dont know what to do! Is there anything i can do at home? i am so scared! Answer: I wish I could go over there to get him and take him to the vet myself! Where are you? Answer: I live in michigan, thank you for your concern, i put some more Bag Balm on it, i think the large bump went down some, so i put some gauze over the balm, and hopefully it will draw it all out, he seems to be walking ok, and i even see him playing with the other kitten. Hopefully it will better by tomorrow. Thank you, and this might sound ridiculous, but my kitty could use some prayers. Answer: If I am not mistaken, it is illegal to not provide medical care for your animals in the state of Michigan. Answer: Not ridiculous at all, but she could use a little help of more substance. Answer: lavenderrott your not mistaken at all. it is illegal and punishable by a min $500 fine and possible jail time. I watch way too much Animal cops on animal planet. Answer: i never knew that, well I am going to see if my neighbor can take him to the vet and get him chcked out. I was holding him earlier and he was purring adn playing with my hands....what does that mean? He's not as sick as i thought he was? Its weird...I just wish my parents would let me leave him inside, but they dont want any animals in the house, thats what upsets me. I dont want you guys to get the wrong idea about my mother, shes a hard worker, and we dont have alot of money right now, she has six kids and can barely afford school clothes this year. But we have alot of animals, and investing in all of them might not have been a good idea at the time because we just bought this house, and the bills are higher than the house we used to live in. But we try the best we can, i even got a job. I just cant stand to see a sick animal. I used to want to be a vet..but i dont know if i could stand to see animals die. Answer: Maybe your neighbor could take him to the vet and pay for it, and you could arrange some kind of payment plan with the neighbor since you have a job. You never know. Do you have a garage? Could you keep the kitten in there until he gets better? I hope he gets well soon. It must be exasperating living with parents that won't even take their animals to the vet. :( Answer: Stop putting peroxide on this kitten. It will destroy the tissue!! And yes what your mother is doing is illegal. PLEASE try and get treatment for this poor kitten, and then try your very best to get responsible homes for both kittens, so they won't ever have to suffer untreated illness or injury again. They also need to be spayed and neutered or you may end up with 10, 20 or more sick cats who also will not be properly cared for. Answer: poor, poor little kitten :( I realize you love your kittens, but since you cannot afford vet-care on your own, that includes vaccinations(very important in outdoor cats!!)spaying/neutering you should consider finding them a proper home. Unfortunately cats cannot survive on love alone, they need care,to live long healthy lives. But having had very little experience with"barn-cats"it seems to be,if one dies there are soo many more to replace them. Answer: There are insects who lay their eggs on animals, and the baby insect, like of look like worm, will live on those animals' fresh. It sounds like that's what your kitten got. I found a feral kitten years ago who got it. Please, please take the kitten to the vet as soon as possible to have the thing taken out and close the wound. You can probably work out a payment plan with a vet since you have a job. Otherwise, the kitten will be killed either by the insect or the infection especially he's so young.
