Kitten is sick?
Question: Hello, My kitten, SpaZz, is sick he is 5 1/2 mos old and silly as this sounds got sick same day I came down with the flu or so it seems. Which was on Sat. July 17. I truly thought he was staying by my side at first because I was sick but as I have gotten better I have realized he is still laying around with loose bowels ...and not eating well. Normally he is extremely active and not one to be held or cuddled...and lately that is all he seems to want. I bought him some canned food (which is against my better judgement) to mix with his hard food to try and get him to eat better which has seemed to help as far as the eating goes but hasn't helped with his bowels. He has a vet appt. for a check up and shots on the 30th but seems to have lost some weight already so I am kind of hesitant to wait. What I need to know..Is it possible he has the flu? Or does this sound like something I should get him in for asap?...I love this little guy with all my heart and could not bare to let him suffer or to lose him either. He is just a joy to have when he is feeling his normal self. I would appreciate anything you could tell me to help. Thank You! Sabrina (July 21, 2004) Answer: Does he have diarrhea? By the way, I highly recommend canned food for neutered male cats - much better for their uninary tract health. Lethargic kittens who don't eat and are losing weight should see the vet ASAP. He could not have caught your flu. Hope your baby doesn't have anything serious. Please let us know! Answer: Thank you for the reply. Yes, he has diarrhea and not the energy he normally has. He wasn't eating much at all just picking nor was he drinking. He picked up to normal pace on his drinking and is eating a little better with the canned cat food mixed with the hard food. I did notice when I got up a few minutes ago he was actually eating some hard food...which I was pleased to see. I will be calling the vet in the morning to see if they can get him in because I am concerned with the weight loss. He is not a heavy cat as is and losing weight is not in his best interest. He is a very tall, lanky cat and I have tried everything to get some weight on him and he just gets longer and taller and now losing weight on top of it. And he is not neutered yet. but I will keep in mind what you said about the canned food being better for his urinary tract because that is suppose to be coming up at 6 mos. old but looks like it will be put off for awhile ...at least until I know he is healthy enough to go through it safely. I will keep you up to date on how things are going and I want to thank you for your reply...I appreciate any suggestions I can get. Thanks again.
