should I spay female cat?
Question: My cat is about 3-4 years old and has been lately going into heat more often than usual. When she's fine again, she seems very stressed and doesn't eat much. I'm considering having her spayed, but I'm very paranoid that something might happen.. I had a cat (her brother) that died of complications during a minor surgery. Frankly I would not be able to handle losing another cat, and I'm afraid this can happen or will happen again... Is the risk of death high during a spay operation? Have you ever heard of a cat dying during or after the procedure? Should I be worried at all? Answer: No question in my mind, please have her spayed, both of you will be happier for it.Of course any surgery is risky, but if she is otherwise healthy, you'll do her a great favour by having her spayed, she'll do fine. Answer: Definitely spay her. The risk from surgery is very low in a healthy young cat, but repeated heats are NOT risk free. She could get ovarian, mammary or uterine cancer from all the heat cycles. She will be a much healthier, happier and contented pet when she is spayed. You will be doing her a great kindness. I've had countless cats spayed and neutered and never has one of them died. Answer: Yes, get her spayed. There is a slight risk of having complications with her surgery, but many vets have never had an animal die while having their spay/neuter. I would say that not having her spayed would be more dangerous than having her spayed. The stress she goes through doesn't sound like it is the best for her, either.
