Cat scar

Question:
Hello! My pet cat, Boo, recently had a lung infection. His medicine injection for the infection left a scar on his upper back. He has been scratching the scar off ever since thus not allowing it to heal (it has been about a month now). I took him back to the vet and they shaved around the area thinking that his hair was getting into the scar causing it to itch. They also put him on anti-biotics in case the scar had an infection. The pills are now almost finished and he continues to scratch at the scar causing it to re-open the wound and bleed.

Do you have any suggestions as to what can be done to stop him from scratching so that it can heal properly?

Thanks
Heather

Answer:
Oh, that's a tough one! His scratching is probably more habit than anything else by now.

One thing you can do, if possible, is to get those "Soft Paws" nail caps for his back claws.

Other people here often recommend "Veriton cream" for problems like this. You can put the cream on, then either hold your cat or occupy him with playing until it penetrates.
I'm sure someone here can tell you more about it!
