Kitten Nurses On Everything

Question:
I have a kitten that is approximatly 3 months old, her name is Polly. She is the sweetest kitten, she loves to play, cuddle, & always has to go to bed w/ me. (Unlike my other cat who likes to sleep by himself.) I don't mind her sleeping w/ me at all, the only complaint I have is that as soon as she gets in bed, she starts "nursing" on anything I will let her get away w/. I've heard that this is a sign that the cat feels comfortable & this makes me feel very happy, but it gets soooo annoying! I'm trying to fall asleep & all I hear is her nursing on blankets, pillows, etc. She even tries to get in my hair, but I think I have stopped that, simply by telling her "no" & putting her down away from me. I don't like or want to be mean, so what can I do?

Also, they say that a cat will "suck a baby's breath". I have heard this, but never witnessed it. Well, this new kitten, Polly has recently started this w/ me. She lays on my chest & tries to get as close to my nose & mouth as possible & it's like she's inhaling my breath! I don't let her do this while I'm awake (I don't think she does it while I'm sleeping I believe it would wake me up). Is there a way I can stop this too? Like I said, she is such a sweet kitten & she gets along great w/ my 2 year old nuetered tom cat, Chauncey, so I'm not going to let a couple of little things like this ruin our experience w/ her, but I would like to have any suggestions anyone has to offer. Thanks!

My cat does this and it will not go away unless you make him stop every time he starts sucking. Luckily for me my cat only sucks on fingers, i have heard that cats will become attached to sucking on earlobes which i can imagine would be very annoying .

The problem comes from being taken from his mother too early. If you really cant stand it you will have to physically stop him every time untill he doesnt anymore. Personally I think it is cute (as do other posters here) and i let him suck on my hands at night while we cuddle in bed. I would HIGHLY recomend that you set limits if you decide not to cease the behavior all together. At first my cat would become very agressive going after my hand if I decided I didnt want him to suck on it, but i would hide my hands often so he wasnt rewarded for his agressiveness.

Good luck, it may take awhile to stop, but if you dont he will continue to do it, forever as far as i know (but my cat is only 1 yr old, i guess i will have to find out)

Hi all! Here are my cats: The big one is a male - Chauncey, the small one is a female - Polly.

Thank you to everyone who has posted replies! I read where some one wrote that she may have been taken away from her mother too soon. This could very well be true. We found her in our back porch, she obviously had a mother, but was abandoned. After we spotted her, we kept a close eye trying to see her mother come to feed her; We never saw any cat go to her. She was getting thin so I decided to adopt her, so this could be the reasoning behind her nursing. Thanks again!

One of my baby kitties, Harley now almost 3, loved a toy I made for her, a little pom-pom made of yarn. She nursed and sucked on it until it was in shreds. I ended up having to toss it out and made her another one. It wasn't the same for her, kind of sad..... she was the first I ever saw do that.

Ohhh my goodness, Polly is soooooo cute, I want to hug her!!!

Could we equate this behavior to ,,,let's say,,, thumb sucking? I have a nine year old daughter who is into that! Nothing I do can stop her,,, LOL!!
