Emergency
Question: My dog is bleeding from her anus excessivley and her eyes are bloodshot, I took her to the vet but he didnt seem to have a clue what the hell is going on, does anyone have any idea? this is the first time this has ever happened, so it cant be from constipation. Answer: My dog is bleeding from her anus excessivley You took your dog to the vet and the vet didn't say 'anything' to you??? No tests NOTHING? I find that firstly hard to believe. Is there something more you aren't telling us? Excessive colonic bleeding is dangerous and your dog could bleed to death. Take this dog to another vet IMMEDIATELY!!! Answer: Where is the dog now? What test's did the vet do/suggest? What chemical's could the dog have gotten into? What you are describing is extremely serious, I only hope that you are being serious here also. Answer: the vet said she might have a immune deficiency where her blood doesnt clot, but she has never bled like this before, whether it was a cut or anything. they are doing blood tests and says to watch her all night, but i find it highly unlikely that my dog developed in immune deficiency overnight, thats why im worried what it is. Answer: So the vet 'is' doing bloodwork and is concerned about the situation. Age of your dog and breed? Indoor/outdoor dog? Any other medical conditions? Eating/drinking okay? Stools formed/diarrhea? DESCRIBE Excessive bleeding? ONLY during bowel movements or dripping all the time, how much in an hour? Answer: shes a 4 year old cocker spaniel, indoor dog, shes had a cyst before but it was removed, other than that no other medical conditions. right now shes drinking, but not really eating and she isnt bleeding anymore, but she might. it happened earlier in the day while i was at work. came home to literally puddles of blood on the floor. then i saw her push another puddle out of her anus, rushed her to the vet and they took xrays and told me what i said. Answer: the reason the vet says it may be her immune system is fighting itself is because her eyes are completely bloodshot. but then he just tells me to sit here and watch her and if it happens again to take her to the emergency room. he didnt tell me what i should be doing to help the situation or anything, just prescribed some drugs and sent me home. Answer: shes had a cyst before Where? And...what did the xrays show? Answer: the cyst was behind her ear. the vet said the xrays showed nothing Answer: what could the dog have gotten into while you were at work? quite a few house hold chemicals will cause internal bleeding. Answer: the only thing i can think of is i sprayed a tree outside with a chemical for bugs and it rained the next day, so it could have washed into the grass and she could have walked through it or something. i read the bottle and the chemical did say stuff like it could kill fish in a run-off. but even if it is that, will my dog be ok, is it treatable. do you know vets you could ask, because i told the vet this and he said thats not it. Answer: that's why I was curious, anything that you think even remotely that the dog could have gotten into, tell the vet so that they have a starting point to say if it could be or it isn't. Answer: for the blood, is it a dark red, or a light red? Answer: the blood was dark red Answer: Please read this page http://www.fairmountanimal.com/bloodstool.html Answer: In no way can I say for sure, but I think that your dog has ingested something really bad. A very dark red blood coming out of the anus is a definate sign of internal bleeding. I strongly suggest you phone a poison control centre, describe the symptoms that your dog is experiencing, along with any and all chemicals you use. They can cross reference symptoms with chemicals to reach a likely culprit. with this information the vet can do a direct test for said suspicions. Do you use a toilet bowl puck in your toilet? does the dog have access to the toilet to drink from? Answer: i read that page already. its saying the dog can have internal bleeding from poisons and it says its not life threatening, but i am seriously worried and i feel helpless. i was just trying to find another vet to give me a second opinion, which is why i asked if any of you knew a vet you could ask for me. thanks for finding the info though, i appreciate it Answer: i dont have a toilet bowl puck, i know it is not that. only this pesticide stuff is the only thing she could have inhaled. Answer: Yes it says that, but it also says that's only one of a dozen other things it could be! I wouldn't just go by that one thing. Can't you call another vet, even call an emergency one... where are you at? Answer: :( just wanna let everyone know that she passed away yesterday. i guess she had some kind of blot clotting disorder common in female cocker spaniels. she showed symptoms on thursday and passed away on friday. i still blame the vet for not hooking her up to an iv because the emergency room said she died from blood loss. if he would have done everything he could have thursday night, she might still be alive. well thanks for all your guys' help, i appreciate it. Answer: Oh no,that is soo sad :( Poor Cocker and poor you. I think in this case it was the vets fault, not that it matters anymore :( Answer: I am SOO sorry to hear of your loss! (((HUGS))) That's so very sad!! I would confront the vet about the response you had from the emergency. At least it would let him know that he screwed up! Not that it would change the outcom of your sad story! :( :( Answer: I was gone yesterday afternoon and evening. I'm sorry I missed this thread and I'm sooooooo sorry you lost your little cocker. Over a year ago, my Den-Den had similar symptoms and we rushed him to emergency. It turned out to be Canine Hemmorhagic Gastrointeritis (sp?), also called HGE, which is sudden and life threatening. He was saved by a quick diagnosis and IV's. Reading your thread makes me really appreciative of our emergency vet. I can only imagine how you are feeling. We've all been there and can only offer you our sympathies and support. It doesn't make the pain go away, but hopefully, will give you some comfort. Answer: That is very sad :( my deepest sympathies on the loss of your friend. Did your regular vet even suggest IV Fluids? My personal opinion is that any animal with that amount of bleeding and a suspected auto immune deficiantcy should be hospitalized and put on fluids immediately. Ingestion of Warfin (rat poison) will also cause hemorrhaging. My dog also had Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis this year, we almost lost her. Even on fluids and antibiotics, her temp dropped to 36.5 degrees and went into shock. We got her back though. She's a schnauzer, her breed is also prone to auto immune diseases. :( So I do really understand what you are feeling. I was lucky, my vet (also my boss) is great, she doesn't miss a thing. I would have been devastated if we had lost her, as I'm sure you are at this time. :( Again, I'm so sorry for you and your dog :( Answer: So very sorry for the loss of your dog :( I hope there wasn't very much suffering before passing on. That would be the hardest to deal with. I would be interested in finding out what the vet has to say about this NOW? Poor little doggie :( Answer: I am so sorry to hear about your baby. It is so hard when you lose a fur baby. Does the vet know that he passed away? What is he saying about this? :( Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
