Female Lab Mix lost appetite/ uninterested after heat during diestrus, common?

Question:
My Lab mix female has lost interest in food to some degree, does drink water but is lethargic and not her bouncy self. Is this a natural part of Diestrus (she was in heat about 2 weeks ago) thanks for any info...

Answer:
Why isn't she spayed is my first question?

If there is radical changes like this in your dog it's best to get a vet opinion.

Answer:
she's a rescue we thought she was. do you have any experience with this or not? I'm seeking help before a vet visit as we are strapped financially with my wife's recent cancer treatment. So any insight would be appreciated.

Answer:
When did you get her from the rescue and which rescue was it? If a rescue is falsely adopting out dogs that are 'not' spayed then this is a HUGE deal.

Are you sure she was in heat specifically?

Check for a spay scar on her abdomen, it will be a few inches long you can fill a ridge from the incision...maybe she was spayed and you thought she was in heat?

As for the lethargic and not eating this can be so very many things. Dogs tend to not eat for a variety of reasons.

Was there a change in food? How long has she been with you?

You can feel her abdomen and sides gently pressing with your hands to see if she experiences any discomfort.

It truly is a hard call, and if it's out of character and you don't know what the matter is it's really best to consult a vet.

Lethargy is something I'd always worry about in a dog. That tends to point to some sort of a physical ailment.

Answer:
She was a rescue from an individual, (our other adoptions have been from legitimate organizations/mostly indoor cats) we needed to have her to the vet before now but have had trouble as I mentioned. I'll probably go ahead and take her in the morning if she hasn't improved. thanks

Answer:
If she is trying to eat but just being picky (and thats a hard call)
Just boil some chicken and see if she will eat that

Pls keep posted!

Did you check to see if she is spayed?

Answer:
IF your dog has been in heat and now is lethargic and lost her appetite, these are symptoms consistant with pyometra which is a life threatening infection of the uterus and requires EMERGENCY spaying.

Each heat a dog has increases her chances of getting this disease - which is basically a pus filled uterus which can rupture and kill your dog.

I suggest rushing her to the vet NOW!!
