Whining while pooping
Question: This morning Briggs and I went for our usual walk, now lately she has become accustom to holding her poop until she just can't bare it anymore. I think this is her way to extend the length of her time outside. She's no dummy! Anyway, today started as normal, she stopped to go, but nothing came out. She stayed in that position for a while and then began walking again. This was unusual...she stopped a second and third time before anything came out. Then when it FINALLY started she stopped and tried to scoot her bum on the grass. She tried again and had diarrihera and was whining while doing the deed. I did notice that there was a bit of hair in her stool, more than usual. I called the vet and told them the situation and they said that it's a normal reaction to having hair in their system, or if she ate something funny. He said not to panic and monitor her when she tried to go again. If nothing is changing then to call him again. Now there are no other symptoms, she is running, eating and drinking as normal. I am just concerned and paraniod. Will feeding her boild chicken and rice for lunch help? - Luba?!? Please anyone with suggestions or remedies.... I have been wetting her dry food in the morning and giving her Medical wet food, in case her stool is too hard and that's what was preventing her from going before... Answer: When you take Briggs out, do you turn around and go home as soon as she "goes"? Many people do this, and their dogs DO learn to "hold it" so the walk will last longer. I make a point to continue the walk for at least another 5 or so minutes after Chloe goes, so she doesn't associate "going" with ending the walk. If what happened with Briggs is a one-time thing, I wouldn't worry about it! Answer: Nope, I used to but then I caught on to the fact that she caught on!!! We continue our walk for another 5 - 10 minutes or so...LOL Answer: my dog did that-- he eat some syntheic material that was inside his stuffed toy before i had a chance to take it away from him ( WHY DO THEY PUT HAMRFUL MATERIAL INSIDE THE DOGS TOYS ?!) and he was having a hard tim pooping so i gently helped him by pulling on the material that he was trying to poop out-- DO NOT PULL THE MATERIAL OUT HARD OR FAST it might cause internal problems.... but i think a little pull ( if it comes out easy ) helps them get the hole poop out Answer: NEVER pull ANYTHING out of your dogs bum!!! This is VERY dangerous!!! If they are having a difficult time passing whatever it is they will deal with it. If it's to the point where a human should step in to help it should be a vet!! It is immpossible to tell - weither you pull quickly or slowly - what damage might occur to the dog!!! You're right, it's very sensitive and can cause great pain and damage to their intestinal track!!! Answer: i just thought that if you pull a little... it would be okay...EEEE.. i guess NOT... bad me!!! lol... you learn something new everyday thanks Answer: Does she drink very much water Sam? Listen to her tummy about 1/2 hour after she's eaten and see how much stomach noise and intestinal noises you hear up to an hour after she eats. Are you 'really' sure she's holding it and not just having 'trouble' going. Any chance of her anal glands being plugged? I would put maybe a teaspoon of flax oil in one of her meals a day. This may help her movements loosen up. If she isn't drinking enough water, make her flavoured ice cubes to chew on or put a little water in her meals. Keep me updated on her poor bum bum Answer: Originally Posted by Luba Does she drink very much water Sam? Thanks for caring about her bum bum!! Today was actually MUCH better. I started putting water in her food after the "incedent", but she always drinks water. So, I gave her a 1/2 can of wet food and wet her dry food; today she pooped 4 TIMES without a hitch!! Might have been just hair in her system. I will get some flax seed oil incase it happens again. How would I know if her anal glands are plugged, what are signs of that? Thanks for your help (Lucky too), you're a sweetie pie Lubbie!!! Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
