Flea meds for 9 week old kitten
Question: I was just wondering - in anyone's expert opinion is it okay to give my 9 week old kitten a tiny drop (not the whole thing) of Hartz Control Onespot Flea treament for cats & kittens - it is 2.9% Methoprene. Its just that both by two dogs have recently been to an offleash park and are itching - its probably just the dust (as its very dusty there) but I am going to give them some Flea medication just in case. I know it okay for them as I've used it before my concern is I wanted to give the kitten some cat/kitten one just a little to be safe! Any thoughts please would be gratefully recieved Answer: I'm not sure about the age, but call your vet and ask the technician if she can help you with that question. They are usually pretty good at answering your questions over the phone. Answer: Yes, actually I never really thought of that - thanks! Answer: I would say,NEVER put fleameds on a 9 week old kitten!!! Also the Harz fleameds are not recommended on either a dog or cat.. Go to your vet and get Advantage or something similar instead, but even then a 9 week old kitten should not be treated.IMO Answer: Over the counter flea control is usually not worth the money. It is usually made of ingredients that the patents have run out on. Better companies use newer often safer ingredients. Hartz anything is bad news. Answer: I agree with the others. The vet products work much better and are much safer for your pets. Answer: Good to know - thanks everyone Answer: "Hartz is a bad brand to use on any animal." This is coming straight from my Vet, it can really hurt your animal. Answer: Daizy... I think that in order to use any sort of flea medication, the animal has to be atleast 12 weeks old. I would recommend using 1 drop of Dawn dish/hand liquid. (((make sure that its th non-ultra kind))) The Vet Assitant was using this on the newborn kittens that she adopted (their mother died and she took all 6 kittens in and bottle fed them). Answer: Thanks for the tips Answer: i've always used hartz on my pets, toys, treats, flea control, collars etc. that i've never had any problems. my cats are inside but when we first got Patty Cake she had worms and i couldn't afford to get the advantage stuff from the vet and they said it would be fine if she was going to remain an iside cat, just to get rid of the fleas..... i've never had any problem w/ their flea medicine the many times i've used it (for our litter and unkie daddy and momma) but i guess everyone's cat has different. Answer: I just had a bout with some SERIOUSLY ILL kittens(3 weeks old!) amd mama. I called the vet and he sold me some Frontline Spray Flea Meds for them. I was worried about giving it to them because they were already sick and on meds, but he informed me that even a few fleas can cause serious problems with little kittens. The spray is applied by first spraying it onto a clean cloth and rubbing it on the kittens. Be sure to get underside of belly and legs well. DO NOT wipe on face. Hope that helps in time! Answer: Thanks - She has her first check up/shots on Wednesday, so I can confirm with the vet then ... I know she will have to be dewormed as apparently they are born with them - yuk! Answer: i've also had friends just COVER their young kitty in baby powder. it suffocates the fleas and ur kitty just looks like she rolled in flour for a few days..... i don't know if my friend was told this by a vet or what but it worked for pixi when she was....like 5-7 wks old... Answer: I like that idea - thanks. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
