Leaking dog

Question:
I have a 1 yr old black lab mix. She was spayed in January of this year. In the past couple months I have noticed that she has been "leaking" a fluid. I have found wet spots on furniture and the carpet. It is not urine but it is clear and has a musty odor. My vet says she does not know the cause and would like a sample of this substance she is "leaking", only I have not been able to get one because I do not know when she is doing it until after I find a wet spot and it seems to be uncontrollable by my dog. My vet says it is unlikely anything related to the operation of being spayed. She gave me Stilbestrol tablets to give her weekly. It seems to help some but the "leaking" still occurs. I can increase the dosage but the drug is known to weaken the bones in dogs and is usually only given to older dogs with bladder problems. I'm not really sure how a vet can give a medication without knowing the cause of the problem so any help would be appreciated.

Answer:
Leaking is usually presumed to be an estrogen deficiency
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Have you thought of seeking a second opinion with another vet????

Answer:
It 'may' be urine. Happens apparently after spay sometimes.

I ditto another opinion.

Answer:
Thanks folks. my vet says it is an estrogen problem, that's what the pills are for. I have been in contact with another vet but she says the same as the first. They need a sample to find out what's wrong. Thanks again.
