Dog Ear / infection remedy
Question: BLUE POWDER EAR TREATMENT In,aredients. 16 ounces Isopropyl Alcohol 4 tablespoons Boric Acid Powder 16 drops Gentian Violet Solution Instructions For Use: Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well. You will also need to shake solution every time you use it to disperse the Boric Acid Powder. To use, purchase a "Clairol" type plastic bottle or a small baby ear syringe bottle to dispense solution to ears. TREATMENT: Evaluate condition of ears before treating and if very inflamed and sore, do not attempt to pull hair or clean out ear at all on the 3rd day, you can clean out. Flood the ear with solution, (gently squirt bottle), on first treatment, wipe with a tissue, and leave alone without massage. Subsequent treatments flood ear then massage gently to the count of 60, wipe with a tissue. Wait until inflammation has subsided which will be about 2 days. Shake the bottle each time before using. Put cotton balls or similar absorbent material under the ear. The dog will shake out the excess, which can be wiped with a tissue, cotton ball, etc. as the Gentian Violet Solution does stain fabrics. The Schedule of treatment is as follows: Treat 2x per day for the first week to two weeks depending upon severity of ears Treat lx per day for the next 1-2 weeks then Treat lx per month. Others have found that despite the alcohol, the dog will not object to even the first treatment. The Boric Acid Powder soothes the ear. The Gentian Violet Solution is an anti-infection agent. The solution appears to work well on any and all ear problems from mites to wax to canker. After the 2 d the ear with a Q-tip or cotton balls. The success rate for this treatment is 95-99%. Dogs on the verge of ear canal surgery have been returned to normal with only the regular follow-up treatment to keep the ear healthy. If an infection seems to be remaining in the treated ear after the above course of treatment, you may also have some Pseudomonas bacteria in the site. This can be eradicated by using a gentle flush of raw apple cider vinegar and warm water. Use 2 tablespoons of vinegar to one cup of water, 2 x per week. The have found the Blue Power Solution to be effective for treating fungus-type infections on the feet and elsewhere on the dog, for cuts on dogs or people and for hot spots. Remember it is for external use only. Be careful not to get it into the eyes. Answer: Luba, Can this be used just for cleaning the ear too? My sister's poodle has problems between groomings with ears, I will have her try this thanks. Answer: Absolutely use it for the poodle Answer: Originally Posted by Luba Absolutely use it for the poodle I called my sister and told her all about this and she is going to make some for her kid thanks. Answer: My pleasure Answer: Hi - noticed this from almost a year ago but hoped to find out where you get the Violet Solution and can you get Boric Acid from any pharmacy? My brother has a black standard poodle (apparently the black ones are more prone to ear conditions cuz of excessive hair growth in the ear canal) that has had a chronic ear condition for years. I know that he's been to a vet many many times for the vet to do earflushes and prescribe the liquid antibiotics (I think that's what they are - small bottle , long tube to fit into ear) as well as the general ear cleaning solutions that the vet sells, and each time the infection comes back within two weeks or so. Even with consistent cleanings. Lots of black sometimes liquidy sometimes gunky tar like substance. Great dog but I feel so sorry for it as it shakes his head. And he obviously is soooooo grateful when you clean it out the poor darlin. Presses his big old head into your hands as you do it.... Do you think this solution might work in this case as well? The condition has been going on for at least 3 years. He does what the vet says each time but always the condition returns. Thanks! Answer: The Gentian Violet you can usually get at a health food / holistic store Most of them carry it and just to point out it does stain so make sure it's done either outside or on a towel that you don't mind getting stained The dog you mention may have repeated infections due to water in the ears from grooming perhaps. Tell the groomer NEVER to put soap/soapy water on the head area and for the just incase to put cotton balls in the ears to absorb moisture then remove after the grooming. In addition dogs with recurring yeast/ other infections can be caused by a weakened immune sytem. Boosting the dogs immune system helps to stem off and fight infections. Antibiotics treat the original conditions but always leave an inbalance in healthy bacteria. So probiotics should be added to the diet either in ways of probiotics from health food stores or as simple as plain yogurt to the diet Answer: I will definitely be passing this on! Is there a good holistic dog remedy site that you know of and can recommend - I have always been suspicious of western medicine, and the tendency we have to overmedicate, both ourselves and our pets! Sometimes the treatment needs to be looked at from both angles I think to be truly effective- Thanks! Answer: Just wondering if it hurts the animal? I would love to try this solution on the feral cat, that I feed. It took me 7 months to just be able to stroke her head While she is eating, and if this solution hurts in anyway I worry that the trust that took 7 months to build will be gone Answer: Only if there is open sores the alcohol would sting but otherwise it wouldn't harm at all. Make sure the solutions as indicated however and let the dog shake it's head/ears afterwards As for the cat, I don't know if they would have any allergies to any of this but I'm sure it's harmless. Dilute the solution even moreso, make it very very mild. For additional information pls look at this link. Very good and valuable info here on holistic medicine: Answer: you rock my world - thank you! Answer: Glad to have shook you!! HAHA Answer: Luba, I pasted this thread on 2 other threads. Hope that's okay Answer: I noticed I don't see why not...I was going to do it but noticed you jumped on it ahead of me...you racer you !! Answer: Hello, I was just wondering. Can your remedy be also used with cats? Thank you, Bart Z. Answer: I'm really not sure. Discuss the ingredients with the vet to see if there is anything they would be concerned about and they may discuss with you altering it in some way. Best of luck. Answer: Thank you for your help.
