What could have caused my cats death?
Question: My 8year old all black, short-haired cat of unknown parentage died quickly and unexpectedly yesterday. At 10a.m. she was fine, acting completly normal.By 10:30 she had thrown up 3x with whole pieces of undigested food through out. I thought since it looked like she had just inhaled her food thats what made her throw up. I let her outside, and went to check on her in about 5 minutes. She was laying beside our hedge panting wildly with saliva just pooring out of her mouth and I noticed that feces had come out. I ran for her cat-carrier and my purse and when I got to her she was already gone! It was alittle after 11:00. In the 30 minutes it took my husband to run home from work, blood was coming from her mouth. We are just shocked to say the least. We have 3 other cats and are wondering does this sound like an illness that is contagious? To go from apparently fine to being gone in an hour has really got us baffled and concerned. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? We would really appreciate it Answer: It sounds like she ate something out there that poisoned her. Poor thing. My sympathies. I'd keep the other cats inside for now. Could be a natural / accidental source. Could be a sick person who enjoys making animals suffer. How awful. Answer: Yes, this sounds like some sort of poisoning, accidental or not, but without a necropsy it's impossible to know. Do you know if anyone puts out rat poison in the area? I would keep the other two cats inside. I'm sorry this happened to your poor cat.:( Answer: :( I am so sorry for your loss :( Well I echo the other postings. It really does sound like your poor baby got into something poisonous. Too bad the vomit couldn't be tested for poison, in lieu of a necropsy. Answer: I'm so sorry that your baby has died so unexpectedly. What a shock! Rat poison and antifreeze are 2 common poisons that she may have gotten into. You have all of our sympathies. :( Answer: I concur with the other posting. Do keep your other cats inside and maybe ask around the neighbourhood if anyone has used rat poison lately. Some people use it without realising how harmful it really is and without thinking. How very sad. My heart goes out to you. :( Answer: I'm very very sorry for your loss. I agree with the others, some form of toxic exposure. Answer: Maybe this is the same cat Aug. 13, 2004. 02:23 PM Poison may have killed east-end cat: Police THESTAR.COM STAFF An east-end cat who died outside its owners' home yesterday evening may have been poisoned, police warn.
