My dog has seizures
Question: He's a rottweiler and is almost 2. He has had about 37 seizures since September of last year. :( They last about a minute or less. He is on 97.2 mg of phenobarbital and 650 mg of potassium bromide, both taken twice a day. For the past couple of days he has been smelling everything and falling/tripping over himself. He also has trouble standing up after laying down. He has had x-rays done, all exept his brain. Everywhere else was x-rayed and was ok. PLeaze help. I dont know what do with him. Answer: What has the vet said? If you haven't taken him to the vet yet, you need to do so at once! Is the medication for epilepsy? He may be having problems with the meds. It could be many things. We can't diagnose over the internet. You need a vet to look at him. Answer: GlassLass,I think since he is already on Phenobarbital, which is treatment for epileptic seizures,he has already seen a vet. Phenobarbital does have side-effects(don't everything ) Maybe the vet should give you another medication. I am surprised the vet has x-rayed everything but the brain,an EEG should be done and an x-ray for possible brain-tumor. I have an epileptic son(better since brain-surgery )but I think seizures in dogs are not that different from people. Happybunny,I believe your only choice is to take him back to the vet, after all your rottie is still not much more than a puppy,I am almost certain the tripping and smelling is medication related. I am NOT experienced with dogs, but I do know about epilepsy. Answer: Sorry, I realized he was under a vet's care for a previous condition, but I meant has he been to the vet for the latest problem of the last couple days. My poodle, before Den-Deb had epilepsy too. I thought perhaps the dosage might need to be adjusted or this could be side effects like you say. I should have been more clear. Answer: Wow, thats a hard one to deal with. Must be very difficult for you. First of all, block off any stairs as he shouldn't be going up or down stairs by himself. Where are you located? Have you just seen your regular vet and not a specialist? Have they done blood work to rule out any infection causing this? Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
