Sick Pet
Question: I have a pet with Congestive Heart Failure, Hypothyroidism that recently worsened due to an overdose on a medication. She was critical in hospital for 2 days and now is trying to recooperate but is not eating, is very weak and at times is really panting. Do you think this condition might improve enough for her to start eating or at least for her to be a little happy. Do pets live comfortable lives with controlled CHF. At this time the breathing has improved but does not eat only drinks water. She is currently on Lasix, Digoxin and Soloxine. Please respond quickly since we are contemplating euthenising her. Answer: Oh I'm very sorry to hear of your pets illness. Is this a dog, cat, other? Whats the pets name? I think you need to discuss in detail the options you have with your vet to see what recovery is going to be like and quality of life. Do you have any pictures? Answer: My previous dog was on meds for Congestive Heart Failure the last 2 years of his life, with good quality of life. He died at 18. Agreed, this is something to discuss with a caring vet.
