Ticks???

Question:
I have a two year old Nova Scotia Duck Toller/ Husky mix and today she was agitated by something on her side. When I looked, I found a hole in her skin about the size of the end of my pinky... Thought it might be a tick bite but there is no visible head . Can the tick be embedded so far under the shin that I cannot see anything other than a hole? If it is a tick, how do I get it out? When I pushed around the affected area, a puss like substance oozed out and blood as well... It still seems to be bothering her still and I am concerned it may get infected... should I put peroxide, poly sporn or alcohol on it or is this a vet trip? Ant help would really be appreciated....

Answer:
I don't think a tick would still be in the hole if that is what it is. If the tick was still there you would see the body outside the skin in which case you could light a match blow it out and then touch it to the butt of the tick which will make it back out so you can grab it with tweezers. It doesn't really sound like a tick to me. Whatever it is sounds infected and should be looked at by a vet. She may need atibiotics if it is infected. It's not a good idea to put proxcide or anything else on a dog without vet instructions to do so. I think you should visit or call you vet. He may be able to tell you if it's serious over the phone. But I think she should go see him. Hope this helped. let me know how things go.

Answer:
yep,TWEEZERS,than a tick treatment,my opinion

Answer:
Could she have gotten into a fight with a strange cat? That can sometimes leave an absess that oozes.

Answer:
Thanks for your thoughts and info regarding my question. Mocha seems to be better today. I did call the vet and they thought it probably was a tick but that the tick has found a new host. I am watching her to be sure that an infection is not developing and will take her if there is any signs at all. In the meantime, shes much better and seems to be her old self, into everything and very hyper.... again, thanks for your help...talk to you all again I am sure. undefined
