dog acting hungry&thirsty

Question:
I have an 11 year old basset hound/black lab mix who has been acting insane lately with hunger and thirst and general nervousness. I took her to the vet last week and all her blood work looks good (liver enzymes up but normal in her age) she is about 15lbs overweight (im working on her diet) and she has had a hysterectomy 2 yrs ago...but even though the vet says shes fine i cant understand her insane behavior lately. shes peeing on the floor and just obsessed with eating and drinking...im wondering if maybe its a hormone issue belated from the operation...anyone have any clues or ideas please share them with me...thank you

Answer:
I don't wanna scare you but this happened to my dog who was quite elderly at the time, they thought it was pancreatitis but it was cancer of the adrenal gland and it spread.

Please get an xray to see if there are any masses in the dog.

I hope things go better then they did for my baby.

Answer:
yes I have been concerned about that too because she has had cancer in the past and had it removed...the vet felt for tumors and abnormalities but didnt xray so im going to call tomorrow and schedule one..so far ive invested 2000 dollars in a "mutt" and don't regret a penny of it

Answer:
Good for you let me know how it goes, esp be concerned if there is a hx of cancer.

My mutt surgeries totalled nearly 10grand and I didn't care either

Answer:
Agreed, it's time for an x-ray and blood tests.

I am fascinated by this cross-breed. Do you have any photos? Would love to see her!

Answer:
no i dont have a photo online but im developing my next set on disk so ill post one then..shes about a foot tall and long like a basset and is 45 pounds!!!!yes, i know I'm a bad parent to allow that, but keeping this dog skinny is a full time job...shes the nicest dog i've ever had, the breed mix seems to give her a perfect temperment..im just always amazed when I think about the breeding procedure between a basset hound mother and a black lab father...hope she had a stool

Answer:
LOL LOL LOL I'm picturing the stool LOL LOL LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey don't knock yourself, I have been guilty of allowing a few of my dogs to get.....well.....round. My beagle was so chubby, when she sat down, her belly would sit on the floor and her back legs would sort of stick up!

Ok, not the best for their health, I know....but I'm sure a few of us out here are guilty of the same!
