Puppy won't eat
Question: I Just got a new puppy last week. He came down with a little cold. I took him (simon) to the vet. He perscribed clavamox for 2 weeks. I have been giving that to him for a couple days. I am also nebulizing him for 30 minutes a day for a week. Up until now he has been eating although not very much. But now he won't eat anything. Is that normal for a puppy with a cold? Could it be due to the antibiotics? Is there anything that I can do to get him to eat? Answer: Dogs don't get prescribed antibiotics for colds. What did your vet say was the problem? Clavamox is very hard on pups it causes nausea. If it's very bad ask the vet to switch to another antibiotic. Buy some UNsweetened applesauce and feed him a tablespoon then try the dog food about 10mins later. If he's not eating the dog food you have to get some food into him or he can become hypoglycemic and get sick very fast. Buy some bottled baby food or make some mashed potato and boiled chicken breast. Save the water (stock)from the boiled chicken and freeze in ice cube trays it's great for hydration and teething. How old is the pup and what kind? Answer: He is a mini dachshund and he is 11 weeks old. He weighs 4.5 lbs. The clavamox was perscribed for an infection in his throat. He has a wheezy cough and a drippy nose. I kept putting food in front of him this morning, and he finally ate a little. I will try the other methods that you suggested also. Answer: Clavamox is very hard on pups it causes nausea. Clavamox can definitely cause nausea in any animal. You need to call your vet and maybe get the medication changed. If his nose is stuffy on top of that, it's not surprising he has little appetite since animals won't eat if they can't smell their food. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
