Cats are fine travelling to Hong Kong...

Question:
Yeah my cats Mama & Sabrina are back in Hong Kong with me. The flight was extended from 13 hours to 15 hours. I was so worried because I only give them a little bit of dry food (with 2 bottles of water of course). The flight was also very bumpy (I was afraid they were thrown to the top of the cage). I didn't give them any sedation or any baby gravol, but they turn out great except being very afriad for 15 hours (I still feel bad about that, but it's better than to give them back to the SPCA). I think at first when I gave them to the cargo staff, they thought I was going to dump them like their previous owner because Sabrina (the daughter) started licking Mama's fur again. They were huddling together like the SPCA staff told me how they were at first at the shelter. When I picked them up from the cargo area in Hong Kong, they were all meowing at me. They are even closer to me and each other now. No more fighting or screaming at each other. Since Hong Kong is really really hot and humid, I am leaving the air cond on all day. I am just wondering if it's ok for me to turn off the air cond (with fan on) when I am not home. Can cats stand 33 degrees? Even with the fan, it's kinda stuffy in doors. Also, both cats are sneezing, should I bring them to a vet, or are they just getting a cold from the air cond? They are both eating fine and drinking lots of water and pooing too...

Answer:
Wow!!! Many people dump their pets when they move across TOWN, never mind across the globe. Three cheers for you!!

33 degrees is extremely hot, and cats don't tolerate heat all that well - especially older cats - so if you can leave the A/C, it would be better for them.

The stress of the trip probably brought on a case of rhinotracheitis, an upper respiratory infection that cats are prone to. It can be compared to a cold in humans.

As long as they eat and drink and have no green discharge from nose or eyes, it should pass in a week or two. A little clear discharge is o.k.

Answer:
VCheng, thank's for the update and I am so happy they made it all right.
I must confess I was a little concerned when you first mentioned taking them on such a long flight, but it was a million times better than the alternative.
You certainly are an exceptional person for taking them along, you know how easily people dump cats as soon as they are not convenient...and I cannot give you enough cheers for that
Please keep us updated on how things are going in Hong Kong,Mama and Sabrina are two very lucky cats to have you.
Hopefully they'll get over their colds soon.
