Program for ringworm?
Question: I rescued a small kitten about three weeks ago. He had bald patches on his head, legs and back. I thought it was a flea allergy, which I treated him for, but it got worse. I took him to the vet and found out that it was ringworm. I have twelve cats of my own and am treating them all, since all were exposed to it. My problem is that I have different opinions regarding treatment from the vets at the clinic. One tells me to treat them with program since there are so many of them, and it is only a few applications. The other vet says that Program is absolutely useless and wants me to pill them twice a day for six weeks with Fluvicin. I would of course like the easier treatment, but I will do what is best for the cats. I would appreciate any advice . Answer: When I rescued a cat with ringworm, my vet at the time, gave me a topical rinse (it seemed to be an iodine based shampoo), which I found to be effective. Bathed all cats and dogs once a day, for 1 week. Our outbreak wasn't severe to begin with. (had to get a topical fungal cream for myself, cat rubbed up on my knee ) Ask your vet, but with twelve cats, you might need something stronger. I'd go with the Griseofluvicin tabs, they work.
