Tick? Or skin tag?

Question:
I need help here. There is an older fixed cat that I think has a tick. I don't have a digital camera so I can't post a picture, but if anyone has suggestions as to wether it is a skin tag or a tick I would appreciate that. Also, any suggestions on how to remove it would be really good. If you have any pictures that I could compare it with that would be nice, to.

Answer:
A skin tag is just that - a flat, loose flap of skin.

A tick will look like a round, hard bead in the cat's fur and will be black or brown.

If it looks like that, get a good pair of tweezers. Firmly grasp the tick where it meets the cat's body, and give a sharp jerk straight out. Smash the tick. If any mouthparts are left in the cat's skin, it's probably o.k. and will be ejected by the cat's body.

IF it's a tick, it's very important to get it out ASAP.

Answer:
I've always heard that a sharp jerk will break off the tick's head, leaving it embedded. I thought you are supposed to put steady pulling on the body of the tick using the tweezers until the tick relaxed its jaws and it pulled out. I've also read that twisting the tick is bad too. Glad we don't have ticks here in town. Years ago in Georgia, I discovered a tick while taking a bath. It was between my toes! Totally freaked me out! My husband removed it while I stuck my foot out of the tub. Couldn't watch! But . . it was flesh-colored.

Answer:
When i lived in PA my cat would get ticks periodicly. all you will see is a fat tan body sticking out. it may be small or large depeding on how long the tick has been feeding. i know i found a few big ones because my cats fur is so thick that i didn't see it until it got large. the way i found easiest to remove them is to get a pair of tweezers and a match. light the match then blow it out and touch it to the ticks butt. the heat should cause the tick to back out and you can then grab it with the tweezers and kill it. if it doesn't back out pull it out with the tweezers. if you leave the head inside the hole it won't matter. cats can not get limes desease. if you ever find a tick on your self i would suggest going to the doctor because people can contract limes desease and it can be very sever even life threating if not detected.

Answer:
Ticks are disgusting!! My cats have had a few. Since the ticks already have their heads embedded in the body of the animal, they'll often stay there no matter if you pull fast or slow, and will come out on their own (unless you have a very tolerant cat who let you dig it out!) My cats objected to that.

Answer:
Well, it turned out to be a tick. We did get it out fine, thanks to all your suggestions. Thanks again!

Answer:
Some people advise soaking the area with alcohol, as this will make the tick go septic. Them, with a pair of special tick tweezers 9they are rather cheap in some pets hops - it's worth paying the price for a lifelong pair) and then firmly but gently pull the tick out.
