Puppy has strange stool object

Question:
My 15 week Golden Retriever has had two bouts of diarrhea the vet attributed to "Bacterial Overgrowth". She was treated with antibiotics both times. She is on boiled chicken and white rice diet only. Since finishing her last round of Flagyl, her stools are mostly normal however a couple of times something really strange looking comes out. It is kind of cream colored, 2-3 inches long and feels like hard rubber. What could this possibly be? She is somewhat constipated. She goes about 2x per day. She was also just treated for 3 days with a dewormer that the vet prescribed. No worms have been seen in any stool sample or by me.

thank you,

Pam

Answer:
Well, without seeing it, the way you describe it , it sounds like a foreign object. Is there anything she could have eaten? A piece off a toy, a house hold object she chew recently - or rawhide maybe? You may want to have an X-ray done to be sure she does not have anything stuck in her intestines.

Answer:
Thanks. I really don't think she ate anything abnormal because I keep a very close eye on her and she doesn't eat rawhides. I guess it's possible though.

Answer:
You can tell when my girls are eating kibble and when they are eating raw foods by their poo.

Kibble poo is brown and raw food poo is white. Since neither one of them has swallowed a diamond ring lately, I haven't probed so I can't tell you if it is rubbery or not.

Quantity of poo is dictated by quality of food. Since your dog is utilizing more of the content of the food, there is less waste to come out. Another plus with raw feeding. (Or a good quality kibble.)

Answer:
I have no idea, but you haven't been missing any bathtub stoppers lately, have you? Could it be dead worms, all clumped up? Maybe the white rice reacts or something?

Answer:
I think I would have the vet take a look. Better than guessing and worrying.

Answer:
If this has happen more than once and your dog has just been dewormed, I'd say that it's the dead worms being passed. However, take the whole thing into the vet so he can visually inspect it, just to be safe.

Flagyl is also commonly used to treat Coccidia and giardia -both intestinal parasites.

Answer:
To increase healthy bacterial growth
feed your pup plain yogurt a 2/3 tablespoons 2x a day for a week then cut back to 1x a day on an on going basis.
