Increased Thirst in a Mini-daschund

Question:
Hi Everyone.

I have a miniture daschund. She's about 2 years old. Recently she has shown signs of increased Thirst. A bowl of water that would last a day now is gone in an hour. The problem is she's drinking so much that she's began to have bladder control problems. She's pee'd in my bed, her bed ,the couch, the chairs and all over the floors. I've had her to the Vet and he says there is no infection / protien in her urine. But he's taken blood to do further testing. There's nothing in my home that would cause this. No Anti-Freeze , all cleaners are secured away. Her water is filtered. I haven't heard back from my Vet yet but I would like a few opinions for when he does get back to me so I can be prepared. Any thoughts. Thanks in advance this is a great site.

Answer:
Increased thirst and urination can be caused by many things - diabetes is a common one but there are many possible causes, even glandular malfunction.

The blood test should reveal what it is. Hope your pupper will be o.k.!

Answer:
I'm sorry I don't really have any advice but i just wanted to say i'm sorry your baby is having problems. I hope whatever it is isn't serious. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Answer:
Yes, Diabeties might be the one. Don't dogs get it when they are a bit older, though?
