Update on Mokey from yesterday
Question: I went to check on Mokey this morning and they told me I can take him home this evening. They said he had a skin allergy, a yeast infection in his ears, and he was anemic. They said other than that he was in great shape for a cat his age and that he was a baby doll to work with. I didn't even know cats could get some of those things. They ran alot of blood tests on him since it was the first time they had seen him and that was part of the cost. I got to visit with him for a few minutes this morning and it was good to see him. My house has sure been quiet without him, cos he goes down the hallway with his simese meow hollering "hello" and "mama". I'll see if I can get a picture of him to show up so you all can see him. Diana Answer: That's great news! I'm glad he's feeling better and can come home tonight. He's beautiful. Good luck with his treatments. Answer: Glad to hear the good news. What are they going to do for the anemia? He is a very handsome boy. Answer: well, he's home and really happy to be here. i got vitamins for the anemia, steroids, an antibiotic, and some pills. so, it should be really fun to try giving him medicine as he starts feeling better. lol anyway, he's happy to be home and i'm happy to have him home. I'll keep you posted. thanks, Diana Answer: Yey! Good luck with the recovery. Answer: so, it should be really fun to try giving him medicine as he starts feeling better. lol Well, there's been lots of advice on the forums about medicating cats lately. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Answer: weeeellll, the medicine thing is sssooooo fun. Mokey is great about the liquid medicine, but he's also REEEEAALLY good at spitting out the pill umteen times before I win the battle. I know my horses are good at spitting out wormers, but I never thought about how good a cat could be at spitting out pills. lol I tried in his food, but he's no dummy. all of the cat food was gone and there's that lonely little white pill still left in his bowl. lol I tried to open his mouth and put it in and after four tries, that's how we find out Mokey is a good spitter. lol so, I had to give the pill and use one of the liquid medicines as a "chaser". that worked better. Just thought you guys might get a laugh out of it. Diana Answer: LOL...it really is fun isn't it? Have you tried wrapping him snugly in a towel with just his head sticking out. Then put the pill in his mouth as far back as possible, hold his mouth closed and stroke his nose. Works for me. Answer: Oh, I feel your pain as I've been going through the same thing with my cat the past few weeks! See this thread for some GREAT suggestions by other members and for what finally worked for me. Perhaps one of these things will work for you as well! Good luck! And that is such good news that Mokey is back home again now!!!! Steph Answer: I had an idea and it actually worked pretty well. I crushed the pill up and put a little bit of water with it to dissolve it and sucked it up in to a small syringe. He still hates it, but it's a whole lot easier than trying to retrieve a tiny pill somewhere on the sofa. lol He's mad at me for a while afterward, but when I wake up during the night, he's sleeping next to me, so I take that as forgiveness until the next time. He's still somewhat lethargic, but I know that his getting better can't be rushed. I'm just happy he is getting better. That's all that matters to me.
