Could mushrooms make a puppy sick?
Question: My now 11 week old Shih Tzu has been getting sick on and off for the past week. Last night he started throwing up again and had poops like brown water. He was shivering and whimpering so much I had to wrap him in towels and sleep with him on the couch from 4-7am. He had never been that sick before. Today I caught him chewing on something in the front yard, I managed to open his mouth and take out what he was eating. It was a piece of a mushroom. I didn't even know we had mushrooms. Since then I have gone through our entire front yard and removed all of the mushrooms. Now this evening he is fine again, eating, drinking, and running around. So could all of this be caused by mushrooms? He is always supervised outside, and we have never seen him eating something out there before today. But now I am thinking that all of those times he was having a really good sniff in the grass and licking the water off the grass, that he was probably eating mushrooms. I know, I know BAD, BAD Mommy. On one hand I hate that it could be my fault that he has been getting so sick, but on the other hand I hope it is the mushrooms, then at least I would know what has been making him so ill. Answer: I don't know this for a fact but any mushrooms that grow out here (in with weeds) are poisonous. Have you talked to your vet? Sounds like he needs a visit! Answer: Also, they seem to pop up out of nowhere after the rain,so be careful, what was not there today, will be there tomorrow. I leave mine, since squirrels need fungy as part of their diet and they seem to survive,my cats won't go near them, the mushrooms that is Answer: our dog just started throwing up a white.foam like fliud and has diarrhea...and no energy what so ever....same type dog and we just started having mushrooms in the yard but have never noticed him eating them. Answer: The Vet only comes to our town on Tuesdays, luckily Oliver already has an appointment for his shots so I will ask about the mushrooms then. jrw, Oliver would throw-up white foam too. They do this because there is nothing else left in their stomaches so their saliva turns into this frothy kind of foam on it's way back up. Oliver would get sick so suddenly, fine one day then sick that evening, then 24-48 hours later he would be fine again. Well fine for a few days then it would start all over again. When Oliver gets sick all he does is sleep. He just curls up in his little bed and stays there all day. He is just so lethargic during this time, but as soon as he starts feeling better he's up and chasing the kids again. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
