Part husky part sheppard, she had five puppies about a week ago. Puppies are doing great. The problem is the mother (lance) seems to be getting weaker and weaker. Lance is about 4 years old. And she is a thin dog, no matter what we give her to eat there seems to be no way of getting her to gain weight. We have changed her food to Iams from Pedigree. She has a bad case of diahrea that started the next day after having the puppies. I have found out that this is normal from eating the after birth. But after a week it dosen't seem to be going away. She dosen't have any energy and her hindlegs seem to be weak. We have been giving her a bit of milk instead of her water about once or twice a day. I wouldn't think this is normal, but this is the first time we have had puppies. What can I do to help her? Thank you for your time...

ahhhhhh!!! Did you gradually change her food?? if not a dramatic change will give her diareaha (sp) .. this happened to us and it wouldnt go away. I would put her back on the other food right away dont gradually do it just switch, she probably isnt getting enough nutrients seeing shes feeding and has diareha (sp).

I would keep her bowl filled up with food so she can have it whenever she wants it. make sure shes comfy with bedding. its proabbly normal for her to be drained of energy to a certain degree.
