Question:
My 6 year-old Alsation-Staffordshire is constantly constipated. So much so, that it causes her real pain and most of the time it takes her minutes of hard work to be able to pass at least something.
I don't feed her any dry food no more, she gets tin food, veggies and fruit, which she likes very much. She drinks plain tabwater. Her favorite is water melon, believe it or not. I don't think, that's what causes the constipation. She doesn't get any bones or anything like that either. I just can't figure out, what the problem is.
What diet would get her out of this misery? Please help, I'm at my wits end.

My West Highland White Terrier puppy Tally, 10 weeks, suffered from two bad bouts of constipation. It was heartbreaking to watch her yelp as she tried to...relieve herself.
We took her to the vet, who injected her with steroids and antibiotics, and he also prescribed a course of antibiotics. He diagnosed a gastric stomach bug and told us to make her have lots of fresh water.
She finally recovered, although she had a minor bout again about a week later. The vet told us to put her straight onto dry food, and add water so there would be juices to drink. I suspected this might be the problem, so I put her on pouches with a handful of dry in. She clears her bowl, and there have been no problems with constipation since!
I suggest taking him to the vet, as he may have a slight tummy bug which needs a quick injection just to loosen him up. If he DOES have a tummy bug, his poo will at first be very runny and yellow, but it will quickly go back to normal.

PS: Some people advise yoghurt for tummy troubles, but this didn't help Tally and it's supposed to be a breeder's myth.
