Question:
I have an appointment for my dog to be spayed later this month and all her shots are up to date except her rabies. They said they will give her the shot the same day she is spayed. Does this sound right? I just want to be sure that this okay because for some reason I am really nervous about this whole procedure and I don't want to take any chances.

Nothing says you can't just tell your vet you want your dog to recover from the surgery before getting the shot. He's working for you! I wouldn't want my dog to have a double-whammy either. Just make the appointment for the shot when you're there in the office. I can't imagine the vet refusing you.

Agree with Glasslass. I wouldn't allow vaccinations and surgery the same day for my dog either.

Your responses were what I expected I just needed to hear it from others and thanks very much for your replies. Maybe I should have also included that the spay and shots are done through the shelter I adopted from and they
are the ones that said she is having both done on the same day. The shelter is an hour away and when I asked where does these procedures take place they told me a local clinic and could only be done on Tues at 8 am so this isn't being done by my vet. I hate the thought of even taking her back to the shelter for this let alone twice. Do any of you know how much a rabies shot cost maybe I will just bite the bullet and pay for it myself and get it done at my own vets?
