My poor Tucker has bloody poop
Question: Yes I called my vet, yes I am taking him right after work tonight.... Here is what happened. He had soft stool the last 2 days. I watched him go last night (yes gross, but I was concerned). Before he covered it up I looked at it. It was really soft (almost diarhea?) and there was blotches of blood (fresh blood). He is going to the vet right after work. What are the chances he has chewed a toy or something, that might be causing this? Could it be something else? Overall he is normal otherwise. Playful, eating normal, cuddly, typical cat. He is 6 months old now. Answer: I really have no answer for you,I just hope Tucker will be ok. Let us know what the vet says, please. Answer: Oh JKC!! Poor Tucker, you guys have had such a difficult time lately!! I really hope he gets over the hurdle soon! :( The poor little guy! I hope you're successful at the vet today! Please keep us posted. With his condition lately, there are a number of things that this could be. I really am not sure what to tell you right now, except giving you support!!! Answer: I was JUST at the vets....and I saw a sign in the waiting room that gave those symptoms for a kind of worm they get....so hopefully that is all it is and some meds will clear that right up.... Hope all turns out OK! Answer: sammiec - Thanks for your support. Usually it has been Wendel, but now Tucker gets this thing! Holy cow already! So, here is what happened at the vet. His temp. was normal, and physically he is fine. He did have lots of gas build up though. Because the blood was a bright red vs. a dark red, that is a good thing. I was told it could be because he was straining to go poop maybe, which he wasn't, or that he could've gotten into something (ate a plant leaf, or something). Regardless, I was given antibiotics to give to him (.8cc 2x daily) orally. I also had to give him a deworining pill, just in case. I have to call my vet today to update them on what happened. I haven't noticed any more blood since, however his stool is stiff soft (not diarhea though). So...things have improved I guess. krdahmer - Do you know what the name of that worm was? Answer: Ohhh nooo poor baby and poor you! Any bacteria/infection/parasite can cause bleeding. Especially if the mucosal lining of the bowel is irritated. Do not be alarmed if you see mucus in the stool or it looks like the inner lining of the bowel has been shed. How much blood is there? Trickles when with poop or is there just blood coming out? Did the vet ask you for a stool sample. IF NOT GET ONE!!! AND do it BEFORE the antibiotics start to work or the results will be a false negative. Take a sample of poop in sterile container to the vet today if you can, it's really important. Make sure you say you want it tested for PARASITES AND YOU WANT IT CULTURED. They wont' do both unless you ask!! Answer: Luba, I did bring a sample with me. They wanted to wait until today to see if they were going to test it. As my vet thinks (and I think she is right) that it will clear up, which for the most part it has. Basically what it was, was that there appeared to be a little blood through the soft stool, but a drop of blood on top of it, before he buried it, was about the size of a dime, maybe smaller. Bright red. The antibiotics seem to have helped, they also gave me 3 cans of high-fibre kitten good to feed him only. He doesn't like it too much, but ate it. I still have to finish the bottle of antibiotics though. Answer: Roundworms. That is what the little kittens here had....the Revolution treats it with one or two doses. And I'm not a hundred percent sure but I think that the over the counter de-worming pills do too. When it starts to work you will see the crusty dead worms in the poop. Yuck! Well they're are both important and I hope that BOTH your babies are better soon!! Answer: Ok just keep in mind that stool samples while on antibiotics produce false negative results SOOOO if you DO the sample now you have to wait until the antibiotics have stopped for a WEEK. keep us informed Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
