Question:
I need help. I have a 13 year old German Shepherd mix who until recently was healthy. 2 months ago she began having trouble urinating she would squat and only dribble. I took her to the vet and they did blood work and found she had a bad urinary tract infections and was put on antibiotics. I didn't help and I took her back again this time they did an x-ray thinking stones or bladder cancer but nothing still only a urinary tract infection and she was put on stronger antibiotics. Now she finished the second dose and still having the same problem, has lost 20 lbs, hind legs are swollen, she is having problems walking now, won't eat and when she does she vomits. Today I noticed her laying outside and her ear where being eaten by flys, the other day I trimmed her nails and they where hollow???? They said her blood work was that of a young dog. I don't understand, this has to be something more than a UTI, over $300.00 to figure that out and still nothing has helped. My heart is breaking and I know what I need to do but I also want to know what did they miss or what does she really have. I can't jusify putting my dog to sleep over a UTI.
