malnurished or sick
Question: Hi, I rescued a kitten about a week ago. This kitten was taken from his mother at 4 wks old but was very underdeveloped at that time. The person that took the kitten did not take proper care of it. When I seen it a week ago it was so skinny, and his fur was thin almost patchy looking which is why I took it away from her. He appears to have gained alittle amount of weight (he's 200 grams ) but he has diarrhea and always has since I got him I was just hoping it would have gone by now. He eats small amounts through out the day. I was giving him the food mushed up with the nurse maid milk but thought that might be irritating his bowels even more, but because he is so underdeveloped I thought he might still need it. He looks like he's about 3 or 4 wks old. Today his diarrhea is worse some times there is a small amount of blood in it but not all the time and it is leaving him very weak ( some days it's bad... the next day not as bad but doesn't go away ). Although my funds are very limited, I have just recently seperated from my husband and I have a son, a dog, and another cat to support while I go to school I intend on taking him to see the vet, but my schedule won't get me there till at least Thursday. Is there anything I can do for the poor thing till then. I don't want to see him lose any weight. He should be running around and playing at this age but he doesn't have the energy. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Diane Answer: While I certainly understand limited funds and schedules, I have to realistically say this kitten may not live until Thursday.:( Lethargic kittens with diarrhea are in a very fragile state and need medical intervention. It is malnourished and probably dehydrated and may have other illness. If there is any way to get it to the vet sooner than Thursday, I would do it. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
