Cat peeing outside of litter box...help needed

Question:
Hi All, I need a bit of advice. My cat who is 14 yrs old, was diagnosed with kidney stones in March, but has been doing fine up until recently. She has taken to peeing outside of her litter box only on hard surfaces (tile, wood). I took her to the vet who said she was perfectly healthy, no infection, no thyroid problems, her kidneys arent inflamed.. He says that it's most likely behavioural. There have been no changes in her lifestyle or in the household. She seems to be alert and still quite playful.

She's also meowing incessantly day, night... It's actually driving me completely insane.. and I used to love to hear her meow. She's also begun chasing her tail which she never EVER has done before.

Is it possible that she may be going senile? Or any thoughts on what might cause her to change her behaviour? She is normally a very versatile cat, she loves car rides, I can take her to visit other houses, she adjusts almost instantaneously, which is why I'm lead to doubt the behavioural reasoning.

Answer:
I don't know....maybe a second opinion is in order? Not saying something is wrong with your vet, but it wouldn't hurt to hear from another professional.

Answer:
If her kidneys are fine and there's no infection I would say senility. Although if it were my cat I may look into a second opinion, just to be safe... you never know.

Answer:
She has kidney stones, yet is perfectly healthy? Her urination outside the litterbox sounds like she is in pain.

I agree with a second opinion.

Answer:
Thanks for the replies. I think he vet meant other than the kidney stones she's perfectly healthy. He did a urine test and said that if the stones were causing her any irritation, her urine would show blood and or protien.

She's also not normally a affectionate cat, she has never sat in my lap but she does now (only since she started peeing outside the box). And she always wants to be beside me.

I will look into a second opinion, however, there's no point in randomly choosing another vet. Can anyone recommend a vet in the durham region?
