Puppies leg/paw is turning outward
Question: Hi everyone! My 10 week old English Bulldog's right leg/paw is turning outward. She is walking on the side of her paw. I don't believe it hurts her, she is running, standing on it, walking on it. (She does have some trouble on slippery floors.). I've even played with that leg, (touched it, etc...) she doesn't mind it. It just looks really sad. I have a vet appointment tomorrow, but I'm just very anxious to find out what this actually is. Can anyone offer any info? Thanks much! Answer: You may want to talk to Puglover, Her pup has something similar to what you're saying. Or do a search for "Rosie" and see the posts about her and her legs. Answer: you can send me a private message if you want to talk. hopefully it will just be weak a week ankle . they will probably take x-rays to be sure. hope it's only a wiggly ligament. I know the procedures if it's anything more serious Answer: Don't know if this is your pup's problem, but there is a condition where one bone in the leg grows fast than the other, causing the out turned foot. You vet will take x-rays and will be able to tell you if this is what is happening with your dog. The fix for this condition is surgery. Answer: How did the vet apt go???? crossing my fingers for you for wiggly ligaments and nothing more Answer: Hi everyone - Well Maggie went to vet last night and the doctor looked over the leg and he feels that it's deformed. What "deformed" means at this point, we don't know. Maggie is getting an X-ray tomorrow morning. I guess we'll know more after that. The vet felt the leg, it didn't seem to hurt her. She's acting normal. I'll know more tomorrow. Feeling Answer: Poor magie, that probably means that one of the bones in her leg has fused together with the other as if it were fully grown. If shown on the x-rays, that this is the problem they will surgically break and reset the the leg. your puppy will be in a cast for a few weeks and will need a few more x-rays to make sure that the bone was placed properly. did they splint the leg?? this is a congenital defect, and you have done nothing to the leg for this to happen. It is fixable. my pup rosie just had it done last week. she has two pink casts on because this affected both of her front feet. good luck with the x-rays and watch out for pizza..............that means big trouble...well for rosie anyway thanks for the update, just wanted you to know that you are not alone or the only one with this problem. Answer: Okay, Maggie's foot/leg looks somewhat normal this morning. Alot better than it was. Now, the other leg is starting to turn. And it's wobbly. I just dropped her off for the xray anyway. I need to know what's going on with her. Madness, I tell you! Madness. PUG LOVER - Thanks for your support, much appreciated! Answer: still hoping its just wiggly ligaments good luck Answer: update us please as soon as you can Answer: Well the Doctor said that the x-rays do not show any abnormalities in her bones. As I stated in the last post, the "bad" leg is now looking about 98% back to normal. And the other leg is starting to turn out. The Doc believes these are growing pains/spurts. We have to keep on eye on her. Answer: wiggly joints, that's what my vet first called it...... congratualtions no surgery and you don't have to put ketchup on her food !!!!! Answer: did you have both legs xrayed or just one?? Answer: Hi - both legs were xray'd. She is not walking funny anymore. It look like nothing ever happened. Strange. Answer: your pup is growing, just keep an eye on it and she should be fine just one of those things Answer: That is great news!!! Do you have any pics of this little girl? Answer: When we went to the vets, he talked about such a condition in a 2 year old dog and showed us X rays. He said that it didn't cause the dogs problems until later in her life, but she she needed very expensive surgery, which was luckily covered by insurance. Good luck. As long as she isn't in any pain now then that's good, but keep watch for the future (if she has what I've just described) Answer: thats y x-rays were taken, if the bones are properly placed now they will not become distorted as the dog ages, the x-rays you say were from a dog which had not been properly cared for during the developing stages. the expensive surgury you spoke of is exactly what rosie the pug had done recently. Please stop trying to upset people. read the entire poste first then THINK about how and about what you answer. Answer: It was actually in a CROSSED dog who had been very well cared for, but because of her different parents that her legs weren't doing well. I'm sorry if I caused any upset, I was only passing on information I heard. Answer: bones are bones that would have been picked up by x-rays during the puppie's developmental years, unless that dog broke one of it's bones in it's leg. we were discussing congenial defects not broken bones Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
