Question:
my mother has a cat that recently has become ill
its symptoms are
rapid weight loss
wheezing
lack of appetite
his belly is big but hes like a skeleton ..he doesnt have worms.

we took him to the vet and he was put on antibiotics a week ago
i think hes dying
is there a name for what hes got? or a treatment
hes an older cat
hes still drinking water
he hasnt been outside
and he has been hiding more so than normal in dark places.

also i forgot to mention
his eyes are goopy and hes got a goopy nose as well
the vet didnt say anyting other than he thought it might just be some sort of
viral infection

ive seen this once befor with a kitten ....the kitten didnt make it:(

I really hate to say this, but it could be some kind of tumour.
Midn you, I'm only guessing.
Take him to the vets again, and ask more about his condition (don't take any rubbish, demand answers) and if it IS something serious then it would probably be better to have him put down.
Some tumours though, will allow the cat to live a few more painless weeks. Then again, it probably isn't this.
See your vet ASAP.

well we talked to the vet and he agrees that it is most likely FIC
the only thing we can do is make his last moments good
we will keep taking care of him untill he goes (most likely in a few days)
hes just getting weaker
we may put him down if it looks like he is in pain :(

well Chip passed on a few days ago i would have posted sooner but i work graveyard and have been working 12's untill today
my mom took it well as can be expected and one of her other cats hasnt left her alone since Chip went...hes been by her side since then
