Weimaraner with Hypoparathyroidism
Question: I last posted this problem in March this year and I am still after a long time and a lot of money tyring to find out what it could be! I would appreciate any information that you can give me regarding the following. We rescued a Weimaraner 10 months ago, he is from Australia, he's 7 years old and gets on great with my other 5 year old Weim. His owners moved to Hong Kong just over 1 year ago and said for personal reasons they couldn't care for the dog anymore. We took him on after he had been in kennels for 3 months. On his first night with us he urinated a lot in the house and we thought he waas marking his territory etc. This continued and we noticed that he was drinking a lot of water and dribbling everytime he stood up. We started getting this investigated and had many many tests done for kidney, bladder, liver infections, he's been tested for diabetes, cushings disease, addisons disease etc etc, we changed vets and he took more blood tests and it showed that his calcium levels were very low, he said it has to be 'hypoparathyroidism'. I have looked on the net for information regarding this and can't find any, it just comes up with hypathyroidism which isn't the same. Here are my dogs symptoms, if you know of anything else this could be or anything else we could test for please let us know. Excessive drinking and urinating Dribbling from penis when standing after relaxing Eye infections all the time lumps which come and go on this skin shaking at times scratching face sometimes begging for food a lot. thanks for your time and hope to hear from replies soon. GZ Answer: Hi GZ, sorry to here that your boy is not well. I had a look on the net and found this.... http://www.endocrineweb.com/hypopara.html Have you tried a herbalist? Answer: Thanks for that site, I have just had a look, it's quite interesting. The vet said that Angus will be on medication for the rest of his life. I will get the medication names and test results from the kitchen later and post them up. I will try and add some more pics of the dogs too, they are so photogenic. Answer: yes please, more pics would be great! Do your guys pose for photo's? I'm sure Izzy knows when we are taking a pic of her, she is such a princess! Answer: I added one more to the weimaraner pics thread and also a new thread of the time we had to have Wil rescued from a hike in the hills! Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
