Tapeworm in cat
Question: I feel horribly guilty joining and still posting this after reading the rules and regulations. If this gets me kicked off I understand, I just need to know if this is something I can not wait until September 30th for. My 1yr old cat has tapeworm. It was first noticed three weeks ago and my mother tried over the counter medication twice. I do not have the money right now to take him to the vet, but my 20th birthday is the 30th and I am already planning on using that money to take him for the medical attention he needs. IF THIS COULD KILL HIM OR IS CAUSING HIM PHYSICAL PAIN RIGHT NOW I WILL TAKE HIM TO THE VET TOMMORROW. Please take a moment and respond with if I have two weeks or not. He is my baby and I LOVE HIM TO DEATH. He would not be allowed outdoors if it was up to me, but I live at home with my mom and she refuses to stop him when he bolts out a door. Thank you so much for your time and I know it is horrible that he has not seen a vet about this yet. Answer: I'm sure it isn't good for him to wait, but I don't know if it will do serious harm or not (someone else here will probably tell you). I think you can probably negotiate a later payment with your vet. Call the office and see if that is possible. If you have a good relationship with them, it should be okay, I HOPE! Hey, at least you read the rules and regulations! Answer: my mother tried over the counter medication twice. This is why we tell people to NEVER use pet store remedies. They don't work, can do more harm than good, and you have to go to the vet anyway, so save your money and use it at the vet. Tapeworms are very common and are not a big deal in a healthy adult cat. Treatment is easy and not even expensive. There is no problem with waiting until the end of month, as tapeworms are a parasite that - unless there is a HUGE infestation in a very young or sick animal - are not particularly harmful to the host. But your cat may have other parasites too, which is why a checkup and stool sample analysis is needed. Just be aware that indoor/outdoor cats do need to be wormed periodically. And if he goes outside, he must be neutered as well! Don't worry - your cat won't die. Answer: I can't thank you both enough! I am very serious about the control of cat population as well you are (im assuming!) luckyrescue! I have no prior history with my vet concerning back due bills BUT my stepfather (ROAR) has a dog and I know that his bill was overdue for quite some time and they continued to come to the house in my name. I called the vet concerning this matter and they said they knew he was not my dog nor were they my bills. I guess i'm just worried they will frown upon a later payment strictly because of this situation. From what I have seen online it looks as if Rue's case is not nearly as bad. But I am only comparing that to the photographs of animals with many tapeworm segments around their anus. Segments drop rarely from his behind. Sigh. Thank you again everyone!!!! I OWE YOU BOTH BIG TIME!!! Answer: You seem like a responsible pet owner who really cares. You can trust Lucky Rescue's opinion (she's great!!!), so your cat will be fine!!! Answer: You're very welcome. If tapeworms killed cats, mine would all be dead by now!! But they are gross. Ewwwww! I am very serious about the control of cat population So...is he neutered? p.s. Thanks moontamara! Answer: Yes, because of amazing vets that will do that for discounted prices! (Rue was off spring of a nurses barn cat) I really appreciate everyones time this evening. I wish my vet was open now so that I could call to discuss payment plans. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
