What's wrong with my yorkie?
Question: my 3 year old yorkie never seemed to have any problems, always healthy until about a week ago, I would find clumps of hair all over the house from him. Then I noticed he started scratching more than usual and now the scratching is getting worse. Can anyone tell me what these symtoms could be a sign of. Answer: WEll let me ask first of all have you contacted your vet? It sounds like an allergic reaction to something to me. Have you changed his food lately? Second does he have fleas. My grandma dog when it had fleas it would scratch and bite and pull big pieces of his hair out. Answer: First off, I would check for fleas, if it is fleas, try using Hartz Rid Flea dog shampoo. It works great, and smells ok. As for the scratching put THICK wool socks on his feel, and trim his nails down. This will help so he is not making his skin raw. If he is chewing his skin, look for sores. If no sores are present, put tabasco sause on the areas he chews, ans a drop in his mouth. He will learn that when he chews, his mouth will get hot. If there are sores present, put Listerine AROUND the sores, not on them. We had to do this to our puppy. Also, keep a small spray bottle near by, and when he scartches or chews, squirt him in the face and tell him no. It took 3 weeks for our dog to stop scratching and only 1 1/2 weeks for him to stop chewing. Answer: Who told you to do all of that to your dog? JUST CURIOUS? Hertz does not work you need to use something good if it is fleas like Advatange or Frontline. I do not recommend outting hot sauce on your dog but that is just me. Call your vet and see what he says. Answer: Originally Posted by lilith_rizel First off, I would check for fleas, if it is fleas, try using Hartz Rid Flea dog shampoo. It works great, and smells ok. If you have poison ivy and want to scratch, would you like to be squirted in the face? Nope! It won't make you stop, as it is still itchy. Its telling the dog its bad... For what? Scratching? Scratching can drive a dog nuts (as well as the owners). I would take the dog to a vet as soon as possible. It sounds like an allergy (if not fleas) It could be the food or something around your house causing this. It would be great to be able to pinpoint it. Only your vet can help. Please see him soon to get something to relieve the itching your dog is experiencing, its not a good feeling. Heather and her 3 Golden Girls Answer: I agree good advice, I read that and I was like WHAT IN THE WORLD. I mean if I had an allergy I would not want someone to put listeren around it. Just my opinion though. Answer: I was also warned by my vet not to use Hartz and Zodiac, the most commonly sold Pet Store remedies as they have been known to make a problem worse. It is always best to consult a vet first. And I know that I will swear by Revolution! Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
