smelly kitten

Question:
Hi all,
We just adopted a pair of abandon kittens, they are both eating well thank goodness. Our problem is, the little female is a stink bomb! She'll be all curled up in my lap and then all of the sudden, she has the worst gas!
We've had them both into the vet and were told that they both have worms, which from my understanding is common in kittens. We were told they can't be de-wormed until she gets a bit bigger seeing as she only weighs just over one pound but the male is up to two pounds. The little girl also has an upper respratory infection for which we were given clamox (sp?) Could this be what is causing her to be such a 'stinker'?

Answer:
When Vinnie our little foundling first came to join my cat-family,he could stink up a room, like no other and he did not even have worms.
I think it's a kitten/puppy thing,nothing to worry about..
Even Vinnies poop could stink up the whole house, but thank goodness,it did not last long.
You are doing a great thing caring for these little cuddlers

Answer:
Oh, kittens are farty little stinkers!! I was fostering some that I had to keep at arm's length! And as Chico says, even the poops are TOXIC!!

Clavamox can cause upset tummies as well, so that could be part of it. Just make sure the they keep eating and drinking. If they stop, you may need to change the medication.

And yes, thanks for taking these babies in!

Answer:
Bless you for taking the little fellas in!

What kind of worms do they have? If they are hookworm or roundworm(the most common) they can be treated with the kitten version of Revolution which takes care of the worms, fleas, and ear mites all at once. The kittens I took in were all just around a pound/ pound and a half when we gave that to them. Ask the vet see what they think.

And I sympathize with the gas thing...the three kittens have it and toxic poo...and Buddy is a farting machine!!! pee-ew! And he takes dumps so stinky I almost have to step outside!!!!! (He has tapeworm and is still adjusting to eating properly!)

Answer:
When we got Rocky he was really stinky as well. We were told that he had "rank bowel" (gross! ) They said it was caused by his body not agreeing with all the nutrients in the kitten food. He could definitely clear a room. He was so bad at one point that all you had to do was squeeze him a little to hard and he'd fart. My little sister nicknamed him the stinky cat. We switched to adult food and he got a lot better.

Oh hahaha...I don't think I ever mentioned this before...but did you all know that Windy's name has two distinct meanings? The day we brought her home it was really really windy, thus the name....then as my dad says she grew into it nicely! It was so funny when she first started farting cause both me and Chase would look at each other, you know with 'the' look. Then this one time my dad was over and that all too familiar smell wafted about the room....so being a flatulant friendly family I accused him of letting one rip, and of course he says "wasn't me must have been the cat". Sure sure I think, that putrid smell came out of my beautiful little kitten...ya right! Then as the days went on I started to notice that she was always in the room when someone got blamed for a fart...then one day I went to pick her up, and must have held her a little too tight cause man she let one rip...and it was just me and her....so I knew who the culprit had been all along! My dad still jokes and blames her for all the foul odors...but she grew out of that farting faze before she even was a year old...lol!!!!
