WestieX - Bumpy, dry, discoloured nose

Question:
My 7 year old WestieX, Rags, has a very bumpy, discoloured, dry nose. I heard (somewhere/when) that it might be caused by using plastic feeding bowls. I have used only glass or china food and water bowls since I noticed this condition but the bumps remain and her nose is now brown instead of black as it was when she was younger.
It doesn't seem to bother her but it is unsightly. She's such a sweet, pretty little girl that I would like to correct this if possible.

A bit of info on Rags:
She was a stray, rescued by neighbours at about 6 months. Thin, filthy and frightened. When she came to me, she suffered from dislocation in both hind legs. Surgically repaired (and spayed) she is doing wonderfully.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Answer:
Hi There,

I'd keep an eye on this problem.

I'd say this has nothing to do with the feeding bowls....but could be a type of skin problem, ie. fungus, infection.....could be the beginnings of many things.

Definitely make sure it is not spreading over the body.

AND if it does not go away within a day or 2.....a trip to the vet will be neccessary.

Lylag,

Thank you for your reply. Rags has been in for her annual checkup and vaccinations and I forgot to mention it to the vet. It's not something that you'd notice unless you had seen her prior to the problem. She's had these bumps and the change in colour for quite awhile now. It doesn't appear to cause her any discomfort at all and it hasn't spread to any other part of her muzzle. I will probably run her up to our vet's this week and see if there's anything that can be done.
