Spayed but pregnant?

Question:
I recently adopted my 2yr old female cat from the humane society (Toronto, Ontario, Canada.). She was spayed 3 days before I adopted her, however, on her stat sheet it said "suspected pregnancy." I disregarded this since she had just been spayed. About a week ago, my boyfriend commented on the weight by cat has gained, noting she looks rather pregnant. Her abdomen is enlarged on both sides, and her nipples are quite pink. The fur on her belly hasn't grown back very much at all since it was shaved for her spaying surgery. She seems quite happy, has not gone off food, or eating more than normal, likes to chase her toys around, etc...I'm not sure if she could be pregnant, since she was spayed. Is that possible? Any help would be appreciated as I am quite nervous about her health.

Thank you!

Answer:
Is there an incision on her belly to show she was actually spayed? If she WAS spayed, she cannot possibly be pregnant, since spaying involves the removal of ovaries and uterus.

She could be experiencing a false pregancy. It's rarer in cats than dogs, but can happen.

The only way to be absolutely sure she is not pregnant and was spayed is to have an x-ray taken.

Answer:
Thanks for getting back so quickly. There was an incision on her belly, and I took her to the vet a couple weeks later to have the suture removed.

I know that they are supposed to remove the ovaries and uterus, however, I am wondering if they always do that? Is there another method of spaying, such as tying tubes?

Answer:
No, tubal ligation is not done on cats, since the purpose of spaying is to end heat cycles and remove any chance of pregnancy. Spaying is always a complete hysterectomy and ovary removal.

But anything is possible. I'm sure the shelter is overloaded with spay/neuter surgeries, and I guess the actual organ removal could be messed up in that situation.

Answer:
Thanks for the info. I suppose it's possible she is pregnant...I will take her to the vet just to be sure. Then again, she could just be getting a bit chubby! Thanks for your time!
