Elbow Callus and Blister in Ten Year Old Dog?

Question:
Maybe someone can give me some suggestions? Garf is a 10+ 70 lb dog, mixed breed (lab, boxer, maybe some hound) His health is great for his age, except for his hips, which are starting to weaken a bit.
What is concerning me right now is a red "blister"... Garf has elbow calluses, and has had them for the past four or more years. In the past two weeks, I noticed what looked like a blister or swollen bump on top of the callus on one of his elbows. It was full of liquid. I kept an eye on it for about a week, and then it seemed to drain. I then noticed it seemed to fill up again.
Today we took Garf to the vet. The vet suggested watching it for the next week, and then if it gets worse, to have it removed and biopsied.
So, anybody have any similar experiences? Anything I can apply to it to help it heal? We are thinking of bringing him to another vet for a second opinion.

Thanks!

Answer:
Did the vet mention doing a FNA -fine needle aspirate on the fluid?

It might be an idea before a biopsy, it's non intrusive and should be inexpensive.

Just found the same thing on my husky! Not sure what it is or how to treat. Off to vet tomorrow, as closed today and not life-threatening. Dog not in pain. I also sent pm to original poster to see what happened in her case. Hmmmm....any ideas??

Answer:
It couldn't be something like an infected splinter or something?

Answer:
It looks like little pustules and it is very swollen and pink. It drained when I squeezed it, and there appears to be a second "lump". It is huge now and Lennox won't stop licking it, as it is irritated and oozing. There is a hole where the fluid is draining, but does not seem to have anything foreign in it.

I did a net search and came upon "pressure point pyoderma". The description says bacterial, dietary and possibly underlying causes that must be ruled out first and that antibiotics are likely needed. Will see vet tomorrow.....

Well, good luck.
