Funky Bullie
Question: Hi! I found my perfect dog 5 ms ago. Actually, we met a yr before that when I interviewed w/ her breeders. But they thought that I wanted a puppy & I got the impression that Scarlett was unavailable. Basically, like most Bullies she was infertile & I redisovered her on their site when she was looking for a home. She is 2yrs 5ms & I bought her from her father's breeders, seeing as how she was part of a stud fee. I hazd known them vicariously for yrs thru another Bullie & I know that they are responsible breeders. On the her mother's side... Anyways they had been feeding Scarlett nearly double rations of Medi-Cal to deal w/ what they thought was a skin/protein allergy so she was slightly obese at 55.4 lbs. She came w/ a persistent ear infection that they missed somehow as well as glandular orifice irritations & blood-spotting that her 1st vets clinic ignored no matter what I said. The next vet simply treated the ear infection, to no avail & much reation, especially on her white cheek. The next & last, a holistic vet, thought that her vermifuge, Ivermec, was causing neurotoxicity to her liver but Scarlett has only had a one-time dosage of 1cc. She can't be that sensitive, can she? The upshot is that she is now 58.6 lbs thnx to 5 ms of "extras" for her antibiotics, increasingly depressed, lethargic (sleeps 20/7), & understimulated. Nothing works for long, neither her antibiotics nor any activities. She is only herself at "doggie daycare". Even in obedience classes, which she doesn't need being again perfect, she sleeps, usually in a corner. Not even in dog parks is she interested. We now live in an alcove apt. w/ little natural light & I can't afford full-spectrum lighting. I hate to see Scarlett like this when I have seen, rarely, that yes, she can be a flurry of excitement. It's not her food, Wellness Super5Mix Chicken & assorted cans, soon to be Chicken lite once translated into French. Please help Answer: Are her ear infections cleared up yet? This could be related to a lot of other things you have mentioned, ear infections are painful and smelly. I deal with them all the time my mastiff has chronic ear infections they are much better since surgery but it was something that never had to happen but he was never taken to a vet in his previously abused life. But if they are not cleared up it could be why she is so down. She must really love doggy daycare if there is that much of a change in her. My dogs surgery consisted of a flushing of the canals and cleaning right down to the ear drum. He was like a new dog in 1 week he was on very strong antibiotics and 2 ear drops one was for the infection and 1 consisted of antibiotic and pain meds. It was literally like a new dog moved in, even his play mode improved. Answer: Hi, Am a member of this Yahoo group...they are a great bunch... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bull-terriers/ Many problems with the skin of Bullies and infections are attributed to their diet...they are prone to being allergic to 'grains'...check out the group (you have to join) and ask away...!!! Another group for the training of Bullies is ... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/positivelybts/ Hope this helps...!!! Answer: This may sound odd. My Rottie had an ear infection at one time and was prescribed "Gentamicin drops". I noticed when I gave them to her that she was alot more sleepy. So I stopped them for a 2 days and she picked right up. Thinking this was just my imagination I restarted her on the antibiotic ..same symptoms. So I had her prescription changed and she was fine. I can only presume that she was "allergic" to that type of antibiotic. At another time after a surgey she again was not doing well...so the vet changed her antibiotic and she picked up very quickly shortly after. Try stopping the antibiotics for awhile and see if this makes any difference...if so have her prescription changed. Answer: Hi! Thnx for the info. Scarlet had her ear canals flushed this week & we are waiting for the test results. The last few times I was simply told that it was possibly a yeast infection. I hope this works. I read that sweet almond oil, massaged into the ear canals can help alleviate blocked ears. Any thoughts anyone. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
