Amputating tip of cat's tail
Question: Last night I accidentally stepped on the very tip of my cat's tail. He didn't meow or seem like it hurt, but ran away. A few minutes later, my wife noticed a clump of fur (with what appeared to be skin on the back) at the same location where my foot stepped on his tail. Upon investigation, I noticed the tip of my cat's tail had the fur pulled away. It was bleeding a little, so I applied ice. My Vet says that if skin does not grow back, he will have to amputate a couple inches of the tail. My cat seems fine and is not even licking the area. Amputating his tail seems a bit extreme. Of course, I do not want to risk infection either. Anyone ever have a similar experience? Answer: In this kind of injury, a "degloving" injury, the tip of the tail may have to be amputated if the skin does not cover it. The cat won't miss a few inches of tail! If you haven't taken him to the vet, you should do so now. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
