Question:
Hi, there We have had Freddy now (young male, part siamese mix) for about a month, and his personality is starting to show. He's awesome. But a question I have is regarding his constant headbutting and rubbing (which I know is a sign of "marking"). He does this all the time and can do it for minutes at a time, to the point of drooling and having a really wet face!! Is this a sign of asserting dominance? Something to worry about? A couple times, he's been doing it to my face (his favourite rubbing spot) and I've been worried about him turning around and doing a "twitchy tail" squirt!!! <don't laugh!! LOL> What does everybody think?

Answer:
My female fixed Peaches does this any time she can snag someones lap. She purrs and drools and is in ecstacy and is just looking for attention. And yes, she does turn her rear end toward our faces, but never lets loose! Just wants that end scratched as well. It's just asking for love. I don't think you have to worry about your cat marking you as his territory. He is doing that quite nicely by rubbing himself and leaving his scent on you already

This is perfectly normal! My older cat head butts and rubs when he wants some loving..I think its sweet and we enjoy it..it just means you have a loving affectionate kitty,so give him lots of love for his head butting

I do think its affection and it is CUTE...until he shakes his head and the drool flies!! LOL....my concern was about how extreme he seems to be!!! His face (and mine) gets covered in drool!
At least its not a health issue....he's so sweet, handsome AND adorable, all in one

I had a cat that would nurse on anything fuzzy I wore,like a robe and she would soak it through! my head butting kitty,pumkin is now 5 years old and still loves to rub his head on everything..in fact when he does it we say "for gods sake pumpkin you head butted that already"

When we let Sneaky in our bedroom, she is nonstop headbutting, she'll butt the bed then flop over, get up then butt one of us, then get up and do it all over again.
Also, Snooky does this on hubby's hat every night after work... hard too, to the point of knocking it off his head.
Cats are funny, gotta love em.

My cat Sabrina does that a lot too. Everytime when I put my hand down she would run over (and I mean run!) and start headbutting my hand. She also likes to follow me around every where even when I am doing my thing in the washroom LOL. She also likes to rub her chin every where till it gets raw. I had to take her to the vet for antibiotics because the I worried she would get infection!!! Cats are so cute that you have to love them.
